Lately, Nate Diaz has been a man with a lot to say and no one to listen.
The UFC lightweight contender was hoping someone would have approached him for an interview by now, but he seems to believe the UFC is purposely trying to deflect media attention away from him.
In a long Twitter rant (Warning: NSFW), Diaz gave his thoughts on MMA as a whole, UFC lightweight champ Anthony Pettis and Benson Henderson’s controversial split decision win over Josh Thomson at UFC on Fox 10.
Looking back, Diaz has always been relatively quiet outside the Octagon, especially in comparison to his older brother Nick Diaz. But lately, Nate has become more outspoken and apparently willing to relish in the same controversial spotlight as his brother.
Back in May 2013, Diaz was suspended from the UFC for posting a homophobic slur on Twitter. According to MMAFighting’s Dave Meltzer, UFC President Dana White admitted the promotion mulled over the possibility of cutting Diaz for the comment.
Diaz, who was coming off back-to-back losses to Henderson and Thomson at the time, found himself in the UFC’s doghouse, which is where he remains to this day. When the suspension was lifted, Diaz returned in November and defeated Gray Maynard, but the win would only serve to stir up more drama with the UFC.
After failing to put together a fight between Diaz and Khabib Nurmagomedov, White posted on Twitter that Diaz “turned down the fight.” Diaz’s immediate response was that he didn’t turn down the fight and White and the UFC were “full of sh-t.”
These comments only furthered the rift of an already fractured relationship.
As for Diaz’s beef with Pettis, he seems to be referring to Pettis’ tweet following the main event of UFC on Fox 10, where he claimed he wasn’t impressed by Henderson and Thomson’s performance. Pettis is currently sidelined indefinitely with a torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).
Over the years, people have criticized both Diaz brothers for churlish behavior inside the cage. The middle finger pointing, profanity spewing behavior isn’t an ideal image for the modern-day athlete competing in any sport. Obviously, the Diaz brothers live by a different set of rules, and young Nate has apparently adopted his brother’s ways inside and outside the cage.
If the UFC was hoping to tame a Diaz, they were sadly mistaken.
