After then-Bellator champion Ben Askren was released from his contract with the promotion in November, everyone in the fight game, including “Funky,” assumed a UFC deal was mere moments away. 

However, that never came to fruition, and the former Olympic-level wrestler signed a two-year, six-fight contract with overseas promotion ONE FC, per MMA Fighting. 

The Roufusport standout is a bit salty about UFC president Dana White‘s apathetic attitude about his free agency, given his perfect 12-0 record and grappling credentials. 

Therefore, when Askren heard the recent news that relatively unknown Patrick Cummins got the call to replace Rashad Evans and face Daniel Cormier at UFC 170, he felt he had to speak out on the situation:

Cummins, a two-time Division I All-American wrestler at Penn State University, has been untouchable on the regional scene, but as Askren notes, he hasn’t been fighting the best guys in the world by any stretch.

For what it’s worth, Cummins and Cormier have trained together before, and both claim to have beaten the other decisively, per Bloody Elbow.

When White did not immediately respond to the Twitter taunting, Askren fired off another social media shot for good measure:

For the time being, White hasn’t responded to that remark either.

Askren, who hasn’t fought since July, will take on the winner of Brock Larson vs. Nobutatsu Suzuki for the ONE FC welterweight title in May, per MMA Junkie.

Does Askren make a valid point here, or is he just bitter his free-agency period didn’t work out the way he planned it to?
