Jimi Manuwa will have some time to reflect on the loss to Alexander Gustafsson after the medical suspensions for UFC Fight Night 37 were handed out.
Manuwa, Michael Johnson, Brad Pickett, Brad Scott and Gunnar Nelson are all among those who were handed the longest suspensions. The UFC released the information, as they were acting as their own governing body due to the card being held overseas.
Mixed Martial Arts’ official website has the full list of suspensions.
Gustafsson emerged victorious against Manuwa at UFC Fight Night 37’s main event by way of TKO after landing a vicious knee. Gustafsson also made it a point to call out UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones following the win.
Johnson and his opponent Melvin Guillard engaged in some pre-fight trash talk leading up to their clash but the fight disappointed many, including UFC president Dana White. Johnson was able to take the victory from his former teammate and picked up a valuable win for the “Blackzilians” against their in-state rivals, American Top Team.
However, Johnson could be on the shelf for a while pending an x-ray of his hand. Hopefully Johnson won’t remain on the sidelines too long, as the lightweight is surging up the lightweight rankings.
Another fighter who was on his way up was the aforementioned Nelson as well. The Icelandic fighter was one of, if not the top European prospect outside the Octagon prior to joining the UFC. Since his debut, Nelson hasn’t disappointed inside the cage but has fought sparingly due a number of injuries.
