Earlier this month, UFC lightweight Myles Jury and his management team teased a potential January showdown against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone.

Now, a few weeks later, Jury and his team say the bout is a go.

“Myles Jury vs. Cowboy Cerrone is set for mid-January,” Jury’s manager, Ryan Hass, told Bleacher Report via text message. “It’s looking like a Sunday after the NFL playoff games. UFC is announcing date and location next week.”

While Hass said the official announcement will land in the upcoming days, UFC President Dana White has already given the fight his blessing on Twitter. White responded to a user’s question asking if Jury vs. Cerrone would happen, and White replied with a simple “yes.”

Now that the bout appears to be a reality, and if Hass’ expectation that it will occur on a Sunday holds true, only one date makes sense at this time: Jan. 18 in Boston, Massachusetts, at a soon-to-be-announced UFC card expected to take place on Fox Sports 1 (h/t MMAjunkie.com). Of the three UFC events scheduled for January, that event is the only one that takes place on a Sunday, making it the most logical landing spot for Jury vs. Cerrone.

In addition to this report from Hass, Jury posted this photo to his Sqor account Thursday afternoon. With the picture, Jury wrote, “Fight is set, details to come. Middle of January is right around the corner.”

Should the bout come to fruition as expected, fans have a stellar matchup on their hands.

Jury is undefeated as a professional at 15-0, and he’s 6-0 in the UFC with three finishes, his latest a 90-second knockout of Japanese legend Takanori Gomi at UFC Fight Night 52.

Not to be outdone, Cerrone is on quite a tear of his own. He’s on a five-fight winning streak including four finishes and just one decision victory, and he posted a stellar 4-0 record in 2014 alone. He’s looking sharp, dangerous and ready inside the cage, and Jury, the 25-year-old Alliance MMA product, will need to perform flawlessly to halt Cerrone’s momentum.

For now, it’s looking like a fight between the No. 4-ranked Cerrone and No. 8-ranked Jury is a done deal, and fans can expect them to throw down inside the Octagon in mid-January.
