With the official announcement that the WEC would merge with the UFC on Thursday, most of the talk has focused on the two lightweight divisions coming together. Even WEC featherweight champ Jose Aldo was offered a shot at moving up to 155 in the UFC recently, something he turned down for now.
Yahoo! Sports Kevin Iole and Steve Cofield take a slightly different look, asking which UFC lightweight fighters will drop to 145 pounds instead of staying at 155.
Their top five candidates include Clay Guida, Jim Miller, Joe Stevenson, Mark Bocek, and Cole Miller.
Even UFC lightweight champ Frankie Edgar is considered small for 155. With the UFC bringing in the smaller divisions, fighters won’t have to take a paycut by dropping to 145 instead of going to the WEC where the payouts were smaller.
