UFC fighter Anthony Johnson is under investigation after an apparent spat between him and a woman at the gym.

As noted by Marc Raimondi of MMAFighting.com, Johnson wrote on Facebook Tuesday that he’d swiped a yoga mat from under a woman who was stretching in an area close to where he was weightlifting before tossing it across the floor.

In his rant, Johnson insults the woman in question on numerous occasions, calling her “ugly” and saying she had a “beat-up body.” As reported in Raimondi’s piece, the man known as “Rumble” has since apologised for his actions and the subsequent post.

Here’s a look at the apology he posted:

The UFC released the following statement on its website in response, confirming a third-party investigation was taking place: “UFC is aware of the situation involving Anthony Johnson. We take these matters seriously and have commenced a formal investigation by a third-party law firm. We will act accordingly once we gather more information.”

Johnson is a figure who is no stranger to controversy. In 2010, he pleaded no-contest to a domestic violence charge, and last year, the light heavyweight was suspended by the UFC amid allegations of abuse, per Raimondi’s piece.

Inside the Octagon, the 31-year-old suffered defeat in his most recent outing against Daniel Cormier, who won the UFC light-heavyweight title with a third-round rear-naked choke. Prior to that loss at UFC 187, the American had won nine fights in a row.

Johnson is scheduled to go up against Jimi Manuwa at UFC 191 in early September, as he looks to cement his status as the top-ranked light heavyweight in the UFC behind champion Cormier, per UFC.com.
