The UFC announced that it will hold its first ever event in New York City on November 12th at Madison Square Garden. Andrew Cuomo signed the MMA legalization bill into law and the UFC has moved forward with its plans to host events in the Empire state. Here are three fights the UFC should absolutely make for that show.
Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier 2: This one should be a no-brainer. Jon Jones is an upstate New York native and his two NFL brothers attended Syracuse University. Jones lives and breathes New York state. Should “Bones” get past Ovince Saint Preux at UFC 197, it only makes sense to unify the light heavyweight belts at Madison Square Garden. Daniel Cormier is on the sidelines with a torn ligament in his knee and the timeline for November should give DC enough time to heal and train. The build up to this fight would be intense and be on of the most anticipated bouts in UFC history.
Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm 2: Putting Ronda Rousey on the MSG card would be a smart marketing move for the UFC. Rousey has tapped into an entirely new audience that the UFC could have only dreamed for. Despite Rousey’s title loss to Holm, she is still very popular among the mainstream audience. The UFC event in NYC is scheduled for November 12th, and the Olympic medalist stating she wants to return in November, the timing is perfect. Rousey has been itching for a rematch and with Holm losing her title defense to Miesha Tate, these two bantamweights could compete for a #1 contender shot.
