The UFC made yet another huge addition to the already stacked UFC 200 card in July, when news broke that former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar would return to co-main event the colossal card.
As many of you may know, Lesnar is currently under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), however, it appears WWE CEO Vince McMahon is allowing his star to compete inside the Octagon this summer.
Shortly following confirmation of Lesnar’s return to the UFC, the WWE released this official statement:
“Brock Lesnar remains under contract to WWE, however, he has been granted a one-off opportunity to compete at UFC 200. Following this milestone event on July 9, Brock will return to WWE for SummerSlam on Sunday, August 21, live on WWE Network.”
Lesnar (5-3) ended his UFC career back in December of 2011, when he dropped a first round TKO loss to current No. 3-ranked Alistair Overeem. Lesnar won the UFC heavyweight title back in 2008 at UFC 91, when he defeated then-champion Randy Couture via TKO in the first round.
The former NCAA Division I heavyweight wrestling champion then went on to successfully defend his title twice against the likes of Frank Mir and Shane Carwin, finishing them both in the second round of their respective bouts.
Lesnar would then drop the heavyweight title when he ran into a young Cain Velasquez at UFC 121, suffering a devastating first round TKO to the Mexican star.
While Lesnar’s UFC 200 opponent has yet to be announced, there is certainly no shortage of fighters who would be willing to step into the Octagon with the former champ.
UFC 200 takes place live on pay-per-view (PPV) from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 9, 2016.
