It’s been an incredible last few days for UFC light heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier.
But now, “DC” can focus in on just fighting.
Cormier will take on former middleweight champion Anderson Silva Saturday night at UFC 200, as officials replaced Jon Jones with “The Spider.”
“I am honored to share the Octagon with the one of the greatest fighters of all time,” Cormier said in an exclusive statement to MMA Fighting after the fight was announced. “This is a very tough fight for me, and I have to fight smart and to do my best in order to win this fight. Thank you Anderson for stepping up, and thanks to Dana White and the UFC for making this happen. Now let’s go do this.”
Cormier and Jones were expected to meet for a second time, but a violation of the anti-doping policy by “Bones” promoted officials to take him off the card. Having not fought since late last year, the UFC worked to find a replacement to keep Cormier on the event, as Silva, Dan Henderson and Gegard Mousasi all volunteered their services.
