It’s once again fight day here at LowKickMMA, and the talent on display tonight (Saturday, January 21st) will come in the form of Bellator 170. Headlining the card are Tito Ortiz and Chael Sonnen, but there’s a whole bunch of great fights also taking place on the rest of the main card.
Tito Ortiz and Chael Sonnen meet in a light heavyweight bout the main event.
Paul Daley and Brennan Ward meet in a welterweight bout in the co-main event.
Ralek Gracie vs. Hisaki Kato was up next in a middleweight bout. In round 1, both fighters come out and we have a feeling out process. Gracie went for a kick but fell down. Gracie was not pressing the action at all and this upset the crowd. Not a ton of action. Kato stunned him with a superman punch and Gracie fell. Kato landed a series of strikes before Gracie scrambled to his feet. In round 2, the referee urged them to press the action. Gracie went for a takedown in the middle of the round but Kato stuffed it. Kato threw some shots and then a superman punch but Gracie stayed backpedaling. The fans as well as Jimmy Smith were not impressed with Gracie. In round 3, the fans started chanting “Fight” to begin the round. Gracie clinched and pressed him up against the fence. Gracie tried to get the takedown. Kator pressed him off and fired away at him with strikes. Gracie scored a takedown midway through the round. Gracie worked him over with strikes from guard. Gracie passed and got full mount. The fight went the distance and the judges gave the win to Kato by decision.
Georgi Karakhanyan vs. Emmanuel Sanchez was next in a featherweight bout. In round 1, Sanchez was pressing forward early. Sanchez went for an outside trip takedown but couldn’t get it. Karakhanyan clinched with him up against the fence while looking for the takedown. Sanchez showed great takedown defense while Karakhanyan had a waist lock on him. Karakhanyan was landing knee strikes to Sanchez’s legs while in the clinch. Karakhanyan took him down with about a minute to go in the round but Sanchez got back to his feet. Sanchez scrambled and got to take him down then got his back and locked in the rear-naked choke but Karakhanyan was saved by the bell. In round 2, after exchanging early in the round, Sanchez scored a takedown and got half guard while landing elbow as well as strikes. Sanchez moved into side control while landing more strikes. Ref stops the action briefly due to an illegal upkick. Restarting fight from last position. Sanchez kneeing the face off a clearly downed Karakhanyan. Doctor in the cage now. The fight keeps going but a point was taken away from Sanchez. Karakhanyan scored a takedown right away but Sanchez scrambled and got his back. Clock runs out with Sanchez working for the RNC.In round 3, Karakhanyan scored a takedown to begin the round and worked him over with strikes from guard. Sanchez went for an armbar off his back but Karakhanyan scrambled and got his back midway through the round. Karakhanyan controlled the majority of the final round with back mount. The judges gave the win to Sanchez won the fight by majority decision.
Opening the main card on Spike TV was Derek Campos vs. Derek Anderson in a lightweight bout. In round 1, they come right out and start exchanging. Campos wobbled Anderson with a big punch. Anderson returns with a bomb of his own down the middle. They clinch and Anderson landed a knee strike. Anderson lost his mouthpiece during an exchange. Towards the end of the round, they stand in the middle of the cage and just start taking turns throwing bombs on each other. Crazy pace. In round 2, Campos stunned to start the round then they start throwing and with their hands down. Anderson didn’t have his range down and was getting tagged with counter strikes. Campos was bleeding from his mouth starting in this round. Campos landing well in the clinch, Anderson picking his shots from the outside. Anderson went for a takedown midway through the round but had no success. Anderson shot in for another takedown but it was stuffed and Campos clinched with him up against the fence. Anderson separated and landed a right hook. They exchanged to end the round. In round 3, Campos clinched right away to begin the round and then separated. Moments later, Campos clinched then pressed him against the fence. Campos shot in and took down. Anderson scrambled to his feet shortly after and they exchanged. Anderson shot in for a takedown but it was stuffed. Campos took him down under two minutes to go and worked him over with strikes. Anderson scrambled and got on top in guard. Anderson worked him over with strikes then Campos got to his feet to end the round. The judges gave the win to Campos by unanimous decision.
