Veteran Sam Alvey wasted little time flattening light heavyweight newcomer Marcin Prachnio earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 24, 2018) at UFC on FOX 28 from inside Amway Center in Orlando, Fla., when he crushed the Polish prospect via first-round TKO.
While this was Alvey’s first appearance at 205 pounds in years, he didn’t relinquish a single ounce of punching power. After dropping Prachnio with a short right hook counter along the cage Alvey was able to line up another shot seconds later. Prachnio tried to tuck his chin and sling heavy leather after getting caught, but Alvey landed another perfect right hand that slumped Prachnio for good.

With this performance, Alvey enters the depleted UFC light heavyweight division in fashion. The man known as “Smile’n” has always possessed power at the middleweight level, but may actually provide more bang for his buck with a more limited weight cut. After the win, Alvey called out light heavyweight knockout artist Gian Villante, so he’s already thinking about staying put at 205.
