This is UFC 245 in a few short tweets.
UFC 245 is in the books, and it saw one of three titles on the line change hands. Kamaru Usman and Amanda Nunes were both successful at defending their belts, while Max Holloway dropped his featherweight championship to the new king in Alexander Volkanovski.
Here’s a quick twitter thread with a brief recap and analysis of the event, that’s fitting for people’s social media era attention spans:
YAN STARCHES FABER
PROS: Faber showed heart, but Yan was too good, kept patient and slowly picked him apart. Those strikes off clinch breaks were beautiful – and deadly
CONS: Faber has a lot left in the tank at 40, but re-retiring might be better than facing these young killers

MORAES EDGES ALDO
PROS: Aldo didn’t die!! He didn’t look great by any means, but certainly not as bad as people feared.
CONS: Moraes’ seemed to gas early again. He just backpedalled and didn’t throw much after the first round. His game plan was baffling…but I guess it worked?

NUNES LAYS ON DE RANDAMIE
PROS: That’s another successful title defense for Nunes. She had a massive advantage on the ground and she took advantage of it.
CONS: Can’t fault her for not risking much, but… Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. https://t.co/ZXJzeo8HGD

VOLKANOVSKI BEATS HOLLOWAY!!
PROS: WE HAVE A NEW CHAMP. Volkanovski fought extremely well, landed big kicks, and seems to have studied Holloway’s game fully. The pair put on an entertaining and technical scrap for 25 mins.
CONS: That 50-45 score was crazy.

USMAN STOPS COVINGTON
PROS: Usman did what he promised, broke his jaw, and got a late 5th round (T)KO. He adjusted well after Covington pressured early, and big body shots slowed him down.
CONS: One judge scored it 3-1 Covington before the finish. What.https://t.co/n9W5tHJMGm

#UFC245 OVERALL:
PROS: Less lame (& bigoted) smack talk moving forward maybe? 145 is wide open again, and the title picture will be fun to follow. Yan is a beast, that hopefully has more eyeballs on him now
CONS: Some judges were on drugs. Glad they didn’t ruin the title bouts.
