n his bout against Roy Nelson at UFC 130, Frank Mir proved he is still one of the prominent heavyweight fighters in the division. Mir outmatched and dominated his opponent from the opening bell. 

In the first round, both fighters came out hard as Nelson imposed his will on Mir and rushed him to the cage and clinched. Nelson’s dirty boxing was ineffective and he ate a knee from Mir before separating.

Mir applied a Muay Thai plum and landed some more knees before Nelson clinched with him again. Mir landed several more knees and mixed up his striking, as well. Nelson landed a right hand, only for Mir to counter with more knees to the body.

While in the clinch, Mir executed a judo toss and ended up in Nelson’s guard and transitioned to full mount, but Nelson retreated to his feet not too long before the round finished. 

The second round saw Mir open with a body kick to Nelson and successfully took him down. Mir was in Nelson’s guard again, but Nelson got back to his feet. The two men clinched and Mir landed more knees to the body, before taking him down again. Mir successfully transitioned to half-guard but failed to produce any offense, and Nelson got back to his feet. The second round came to a close that saw both men fatigued.
