The international expansion of the UFC continues to grow as it appears the organization is planning on hosting an event in Japan.
According to MMAFighting.com, UFC president Dana White told reporters at UFC 132 pre-fight press conference this week that the company does indeed plan to expand their market; however, he did not confirm an exact timeframe.
“We’re going to come to Japan, and probably very soon,” White said.
This announcement comes after the company already has scheduled an event in Brazil, dubbed “UFC Rio” on Aug. 27. White has hesitated on hosting an event in Japan in the past, continuously relating problems to organized crime, but it seems the UFC boss has had a change of thought and is confident in an event getting finalized for this year.
In addition to a potential event in Japan, White said the company is close to finalizing a deal that would see a new installment of The Ultimate Fighter that would see talent represented from countries like Brazil and the Philippines.
“We’re already working on it,” he said.
“We’ve got three or four places dialed in right now for it, but I’ve been saying that for six months, so we’ll see what happens.”
