This fight was never supposed to happen.
At UFC 137, which takes place on October 29 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, the Stockton native was originally set to meet with reigning welterweight kingpin Georges St-Pierre.
However, Nick Diaz soon squandered those opportunities afforded to him when he skipped several pre-fight press junkets and was eventually removed from his title tilt. Carlos Condit then stepped up to headlining status in order to take on the Canadian.
Now, Diaz will meet with former two-time world champion B.J. Penn in the co-headliner of the evening.
The Californian can still see a title run in his future with a win over Penn, though their styles mesh well, making for a fun and entertaining fight for everyone to witness.
