Dominick Cruz’ reign over the bantamweight division continues as he tonight made a successful fourth title defense.
Cruz (19-1 MMA, 2-0 UFC) looked phenomenal in defeating Demetrious Johnson (9-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) by decision at UFC on Versus 6 in Washington, D.C.
Johnson’s wrestling and quickness proved too much for Miguel Torres and “Kid” Yamamoto to handle in his past two outings, but he couldn’t find the same success against Cruz.
While Johnson did prove that he could match the champion’s speed early on in the fight, he couldn’t find long term success in the bout.
Cruz outclassed Johnson with superior grappling and ground position en route to his tenth consecutive victory.
The champion had the obvious advantage in strength and used it to his advantage by controlling Johnson on the mat.
At 26 years of age, Cruz is his in prime and after his dominant performance against one of the best fighters in the division it’s clear that he’s one of the pound-for-pound best fighters in the sport.
Since teaming up with Alliance MMA Head Coach Eric Del Fierro, Cruz has been unstoppable at 135-pounds.
With the win over Johnson, Cruz has defeated the top-five ranked bantamweights in the world.
