In preparation for UFC 137, UFC president Dana White had a busy media day with the pre-fight press conference and released his second vlog documenting all of Thursday’s events.
The fight card will go down this Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas and will feature a main event between former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion B.J. Penn and the last Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz, who hasn’t fought in the UFC since 2006.
Penn enters the fight having gone 1-2-1 in his last four bouts, while Diaz is riding a 10-fight win streak.
Diaz was originally scheduled to face UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre, but was pulled out after missing two pre-fight press conferences. He was replaced with Carlos Condit before St-Pierre injured his knee in training and was forced to pull out, which removed the fight from the card entirely.
In the co-main event, heavyweights Matt Mitrione and Cheick Kongo will look to solidify their spot as one of the division’s top contenders. Mitrione is currently 5-0 in the UFC. Kongo is coming off his comeback KO versus Pat Barry.
Other main card bouts include Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic vs. Roy Nelson, George Roop vs. Hatsu Hioki and Scott Jorgensen vs. Pat Curran.
