Over the course of the past five years specifically, the sport of mixed martial arts has evolved into the world’s fastest growing sport. A major reason for the sport’s growth lies on the shoulders of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. The UFC has been the center stage for fighters all across the world, giving them an opportunity to make a career doing what they love.
And, as we know, every fighter is different in interests, personalities and even sexual orientation.
Well, Dana White recently addressed the issue of gay fighters in the UFC.
In an interview, White stated, “I’ll tell you right now, if there was a gay fighter in UFC, I wish he would come out.”
White went on to welcome any fighters who may be gay, stating, “I could care less if there’s a gay fighter in the UFC. There probably is, and there’s probably more than one.”
As we know, White may welcome gay fighters with open arms now, but this hasn’t always been the case.
A few years back, White was seen using anti-gay slurs but addressed his past remarks, “If you guys look at all the stuff that I’ve said over the last 10 years — some of it stupid, some of it whatever — that’s the one that bothers me. That’s the only one that bothers me.”
In the process of making up for his past, White is asking all UFC fighters to announce their sexual orientation, as they won’t be judged, nor will it affect their fighting careers.
