On Dec. 30, Alistair Overeem will be stepping inside the Octagon for the very first time as he recently signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
However, Overeem won’t be receiving a hall pass in his UFC debut as he will square off with former heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar.
While Overeem began his mixed martial arts career with inconsistency, he’s overcome his flashes of mediocrity as he hasn’t been defeated since September of 2007.
Overeem, however, has yet to face an opponent with better wrestling skills than Lesnar or fight at a higher stage in the sport of mixed martial arts.
In a recent interview, Overeem weighed in regarding his up-and-coming bout at UFC 141.
“It’s going to be a very exciting fight. I think all the fans in the world are watching out for this fight,” he said.
Overeem got a bit more specific when he addressed the matchup and who was the favorite heading in:
I think it’s going to be a very interesting matchup. You have the best, strongest wrestler guy—well, not the best, I wouldn’t say, but the strongest wrestler guy out there versus the strongest striker.
I think it’s pretty straightforward what he’s gonna do and I think it’s pretty straightforward what I’m gonna do. It’s gonna be who’s better at forcing his game on the other.
Not only will UFC 141 be one of the most exciting fights in UFC history, but the winner will move on to earn himself a title fight against the current champion, Junior Dos Santos.
And Overeem’s fight prediction?
“It’s not gonna go to the second round, I’m gonna knock him out in the first round.”
