At just 20 years old, Michael “Mayday” McDonald has become one of the top prospects in MMA.
McDonald showed the world once again why he is a rising star at UFC 139 when he knocked out Alex Soto in brutal fashion.
McDonald is now 14-1 in his MMA career and is looking more and more like a top Bantamweight fighter.
Although he is not even old enough to drink yet, McDonald is a star in the making.
Since age 10, McDonald has been training in martial arts.
First it started with kickboxing. By age 14, McDonald began training in MMA.
By the time McDonald was 16, he was following in his brothers’ footsteps by turning pro.
Saturday night McDonald showed just how dangerous his striking could be.
It was his eighth by knockout.
McDonald is no slouch on the ground either.
The California native is a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and has four victories by submission.
Because of his diversity and what he’s already shown us at just age 20, McDonald could very well be the future of the bantamweight division.
McDonald has some sick striking and has the potential to be just as good on the ground.
McDonald still has some growing to do though.
Although he has defeated the first ever WEC featherweight champion, Cole Escovedo, he has yet to take on a current top 10 fighter.
Until we see McDonald tested by a top contender we won’t know just how much of a prodigy he is yet.
But McDonald has plenty of time to grow and to continue to improve his skills.
