On December 30th, 2011, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will end a priceless year in Las Vegas, Nevada for UFC 141.
UFC 141 will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena beginning at 7:00 p.m. PT and 10:00 p.m. ET.
In one of the most hyped fights of all-time, UFC newcomer Alistair Overeem will enter the Octagon to take on the highly popular, Brock Lesnar.
Overeem will make his debut in what could be a stepping stone to an historical run to the top of the heavyweight division.
When action begins on December 30th, Overeem will be facing an opponent who’s been out of the Octagon for over a year due to an illness known as diverticulitis.
Many consider Overeem to be the clear-cut favorite heading into the highly anticipated main event of the evening as Lesnar has yet to face an opponent with the striking skills of Overeem.
In fact, Overeem will be using Lesnar’s strength of wrestling to his advantage as he’s also established himself as a threat on the ground as well.
On paper, Overeem has the clear advantage through his years of experience, his stand up exchange, and his ability to catch his opponent when need be.
And, if Lesnar can find his way past Lesnar, he’ll find himself sitting next in line for a heavyweight title shot against current champion, Junior Dos Santos.
With Overeem’s well-rounded skill set and Dos Santos’ inexperience in grappling, it’s very likely we could see ‘The Reem’ wearing UFC gold when 2012 rolls around.
If Overeem can live up to the hype and prove he can get the job done when it counts, it’s likely there will be a new sheriff in town at some point in the new year.
Alistair Overeem will be the next UFC heavyweight champion in 2012.
