On December 30th, the Ultimate Fighting Championship will air it’s last pay-per-view event of 2011 in UFC 141 from Las Vegas, Nev.
UFC 141 will take place at the sold-out MGM Grand Garden Arena beginning at 7 p.m. PT and 10 p.m. ET.
In the main event of the evening and one of the most anticipated fights of all-time, Brock Lesnar will make his return to the Octagon after being off for more than a full year.
Lesnar will take on no other than UFC newcomer, Alistair Overeem, with the winner to move on and face Junior dos Santos for a heavyweight title shot.
And, while many fans are beginning to question Lesnar’s chances against the dangerous striker in Overeem, they shouldn’t.
Lesnar has the skill set and tools to expose Overeem when action begins on December 30th.
However, in order for Lesnar to do so, he’ll have to follow a strategic game plan which could ultimately lead him to the opportunity of regaining his highly desired heavyweight title.
Lesnar will not want to exchange strikes when the opening bell rings as Overeem could finish his opponent in just one swing.
However, Lesnar will want to be the aggressor in order to shed off any cage rust that may be present.
In order to avoid the standup, Lesnar will have to use his exceptional takedown skills that he’s displayed throughout his early career with the UFC.
If, and when, Lesnar finally takes Overeem to the ground, he’ll need to be on close guard as Overeem is a submission artist in his own right.
As Lesnar begins to pound away via vicious strikes and elbows, he’ll need to be careful not to get caught in what would result in a submission victory for Overeem.
The chances of Overeem getting back to his feet with Lesnar on top of him are slim to none.
If Lesnar can establish his grueling ground game, he’ll have no problem exposing Overeem and earning himself another shot at the heavyweight title.
Even having been off for a significant amount of time and facing an opponent the caliber of Overeem, Lesnar has the skills to earn another 265-pound title fight.
