In his latest video blog installment leading up to this Friday’s UFC 141, UFC president Dana White clears up some controversy regarding the coveted fastest knockout in the promotion’s history.
White breaks down the three fastest candidates and, unofficially, awards UFC welterweight and lightweight Duane Ludwig with the top spot.
For years, Ludwig has been petitioning for the fastest knockout with his 2006 win over Jonathan Goulet. Controversy surrounded the exact time of the finish as the Nevada Athletic Commission’s time keeper mistakenly clocked the knockout at 11 seconds into the first round.
In the video, White explains that time is kept from when the referee starts the bout until he or she ends the fight by placing his or her hands on the combatants. Looking over Ludwig’s finish, the exact time was actually 6.06 seconds.
White states that although the athletic commission refuses to reverse their decision, the UFC will recognize Ludwig’s knockout as the fastest in the promotion’s history.
Also in the video, White breaks down the second- and third-fastest knockouts, including former UFC heavyweight Todd Duffee’s 7.56-second knockout of Tim Hague at UFC 102 and UFC featherweight Chan-Sung Jung’s 6.26-second knockout of Mark Hominick at UFC 140.
Now having substantial proof of the almost five-second disparity between the NAC’s time and the actual time of the knockout, White hopes that they will reverse their decision.
