Some might say former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar‘s career in MMA will be over if he is to come up short against Strikeforce heavyweight champion Alistair Overeem tonight at UFC 141.
If he loses and still decides to fight in the leading MMA promotion, nobody can deny his record and success, but where exactly would he stand in the heavyweight rankings?
Outside of the top-five heavyweights in the UFC, there aren’t too many challengers that would pose a big enough threat to the former WWE superstar.
Even with seven fights under his belt, Lesnar has won, defended and lost the UFC heavyweight championship. His victories include those over Frank Mir, Randy Couture, Heath Herring and Shane Carwin.
The only fighters that can really be ranked above him, even if he is to lose against Overeem, are Junior dos Santos and Cain Velasquez. He would still remain a top-five fighter in the division with Overeem pulling ahead to top three before challenging UFC heavyweight champion Junior dos Santos.
Overeem will bring a wealthy amount of experience to the cage for his UFC debut, and a 35-11 record is enough to prove it. Fights in the light-heavyweight and heavyweight division have made him one of the more exciting fighters, and his 33 finishes in 35 victories make him one of the more dangerous fighters in the sport.
Nobody will be surprised if Lesnar falls early against the former K1 heavyweight kickboxing champion, and many are expecting a knockout to be the end-result of tonight’s bout.
UFC 141 will be available on pay-per-view, starting at 10 p.m. ET. Other main-card bouts include Nate Diaz vs. Donald Cerrone, Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Alexander Gustafsson, Nam Phan vs. Jim Hettes and Jon Fitch vs. Johny Hendricks.
