Tonight during the UFC on FX 2 prelims, welterweight prospect T.J. Waldburger submitted former Golden Gloves winner Jake Hecht with a beautiful armbar. In a fight that lasted just under a minute, Waldburger proved just how dangerous he is on the ground.
Here’s what we learned from the fight.
What we’ll remember about this fight:
Although he is not a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu yet, Waldburger is a serious threat on the ground.
It took him just 55 seconds to take out Jake Hecht. Although Hecht tried to escape, Waldburger was able to hold on and transition into the armbar well.
What we learned about T.J. Waldburger:
Waldburger proved tonight that he is no joke on the ground. Waldburger earned his 12th win by submission tonight and continued to show just how much potential he has. Waldburger could very well be a future contender if he is able to keep it up.
What we learned about Jake Hecht:
Although Hecht lost in just 55 seconds, he has nothing to be ashamed about. Tonight was only the first time he’s been stopped in his career. Hecht is a good prospect. But tonight he proved that he needs more work on his ground game.
What’s Next for Waldburger:
Waldburger proved how good on the ground he could be, but may not be ready for top competition just yet. A fight against Dong Hyun Kim could be where he stands in the division.
What’s Next for Hecht:
Hetch got caught by a good submission tonight. First thing on his list is work on his ground game some. After that, a match up against Sean Pierson could be a good scrap for him.
