Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar retired from the sport of mixed martial arts just months ago after losing to Alistair Overeem, but his title as a former WWE champion seems more fitting now, as the 34-year-old returned to WWE Monday night on Raw.
The return came just one day after WrestleMania 28, and as John Cena was congratulating The Rock after their match from last night’s event, Lesnar made a quick appearance and acknowledged the crowd before walking into the ring to meet Cena.
An attempt at a hand shake quickly turned into Lesnar using an F-5 on Cena.
Rumors of his return to the WWE have been on and off for more than a year, but his contract with the UFC kept him from going back, and it didn’t appear he wanted to return until he got another chance at regaining the UFC title.
A video of The Undertaker and Lesnar meeting after his title loss to Velasquez at UFC 121 had a lot of fans speculating his return to professional wrestling, but it has been a year and a half since that fight, and most of the rumors were cut off until recently.
His final UFC bout came against Overeem, who he lost to in the very first round in December. It was the second of two back-to-back losses that led him to retiring from MMA.
Lesnar’s accomplishments in MMA include winning the heavyweight title when he defeated UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture at UFC 91. Two title defenses followed with wins over Shane Carwin and Frank Mir, but those will be the defining moments of his short, yet accomplished, MMA career.
