Following the UFC on Fox 3 pre-fight press conference, UFC president Dana White spoke with the media and some sneaky fans about a slew of different topics. Among the most pertinent were Chael Sonnen’s controversial comments on Brazilians and Jon Jones’ championship run in the light heavyweight division and his possible move to heavyweight.
On Jon Jones as a dominant champion:
I think it’s great if a guy dominates like a guy like Anderson who has dominated as long as he has, but it is what it is. There was a time when that 205-pound title switched hands quite a bit there. Chuck lost it and then Rashad had it. Rampage had it. Forrest had it…it is what it is.
Regarding Jon Jones’ rumored jump to heavyweight:
I just think he’s so young. Let me tell you about Jon Jones. Have you every heard Jon Jones say ‘this was a hard cut for me’ or seen him go on the scales and look like a skeleton or anything? He makes that cut easy. When you talk about going to heavyweight, you talk about f*cking Junior Dos Santos and guys that are monsters…huge guys. I just think that he’s so young, he’s still learning, he’s still got a long way to go. I know it’s crazy saying that about the champ that’s just annihilated every champ in the 205-pound division in UFC history, but he still has a lot to learn.
On taking Chael Sonnen to Brazil:
It’s not fun taking Chael to Brazil. I was actually very confident that if we did the big stadium, we’d pull this thing off and bring Chael down there. I didn’t think that Chael would say the type of shit he was gonna say down there. It’s one thing to say that in your living room in America. You can say crazy sh*t like that. But I can tell you that was one of the most surreal press conferences I’ve ever been in. I joke about that we’d have to dig a tunnel in the octagon to get him out but, but I’m starting to believe it. He’s crazy.
