Things appear decidedly complicated in the world of UFC flyweight Ian McCall.
According to a report on MMA Weekly, the fighter has just been released from jail after serving a 17-day jail sentence in Irvine, Calif.
Apparently, McCall was collared for a probation violation which stems from, and here’s where it gets complicated, two outstanding warrants to his name.
One warrant was in relation to not completing 20 days of Cal Trans work stemming from a 2008 charge (assuming this has something to do with some kind of physical labour work only Californians know about). The other was for not showing up to court after he was caught driving on a suspended licence.
The failure to appear in court was considered a probation violation because of his earlier entanglements with the law, and he was sentenced to 30 days imprisonment. He’s been released after serving only 17 days.
McCall has a long history with the law and admits to being a heavy drug user in his earlier days.
In 2008 he was caught by police with prescription drugs and “paraphernalia.” However, after completing rehab the following year, the fighter reinvented himself and ended up, this year, coming close to fighting for the UFC’s inaugural flyweight title.
After being released from jail, McCall tweeted:
“Free at last, free at last… Time to get back to work.”
