In just a few weeks the UFC will make its first appearance in Montreal since December 2010. You may recall that event, UFC 124, as the one where welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre put on a clinic on how to effectively use the jab to brutalize an opponent, in this case, Josh Koscheck. As with that event, St-Pierre will compete in the evening’s main event.
The fight card, UFC 154, will see St-Pierre step into the Octagon for the first time since defeating Jake Shields in April of 2011. St-Pierre’s long layoff was due to the fact that he was forced to undergo surgery after damaging his ACL while training for a bout against Nick Diaz.
The extent of the injury saw the UFC decide to offer an interim title. Carlos Condit claimed that crown when he defeated Diaz on February 4 of this year. After winning that bout Condit decided he would not defend the interim title, instead waiting to face St-Pierre in a title unification bout.
That fight will take place on November 17 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
In addition to the welterweight title unification bout, fans will get to see a scrap that could determine the next challenger for the winner of the St-Pierre versus Condit bout. In that fight, the evening’s co-main event, Martin Kampmann will face Johny Hendricks.
To get you ready for the upcoming fight card the UFC has put together an extended video preview for the two headlining bouts.
