It seems rising middleweight star Francis Carmont has big plans for 2013.
After a successful 2012 that saw him collect three wins, “Limitless” is in the market for some bigger game. Specifically, middleweight standout Mark Munoz or perennial title contender Yushin Okami.
Carmont took to Twitter to discuss his desire take on one of the two:
@arielhelwani To start 2013, I’ll wish to make a good fight.Give me the opportunity to fight Munoz or Okami at UFC 158 in Montreal
— Francis Carmont (@franciscarmont) January 5, 2013
Munoz has been sidelined since receiving a horrific pounding from last July, though he remains a recognizable name and a guy not too far from the top of the 185-pound ladder.
Okami, meanwhile, is fresh off a UFC 155 decision win over Alan Belcher. The bout was not the most exhilarating, but Okami dominated from start to finish, re-solidifying his place near the top of the division.
For his part, Carmont is coming off an uninspired decision win over Tom Lawlor at UFC 154. But prior to that result, he had gained notice as a strong up-and-comer for his previous three UFC performances.
A fight against either Munoz or Okami would signify a significant step up in competition for the Frenchman, and in spite of the Lawlor fight, it’s hard to argue that he isn’t ready to make a move in that direction.
So, what do you think? Is he ready for the likes of Munoz or Okami, or should Carmont have to take on someone a little farther down the ranks before he gets the opportunity he seeks?
Leave it in the comments.
