After cancelling scheduled events in September and November of 2012, it was no huge surprise when it was announced that Strikeforce would close its doors following its January 12 fight card booked for Oklahoma City.
The event had originally been labeled “Strikeforce: Champions” and was set to feature three title bouts, but injury has reduced that number to one. The only remaining title fight will feature welterweight champion Nate Marquardt facing off against Tarec Saffiedine. That bout will stand as the main event of the evening.
Also competing on the card will be Daniel Cormier, Josh Barnett, Gegard Mousasi, Mike Kyle, Jacare Souza, Tim Kennedy and more. The card will feature 11 bouts. As an added bonus, this weekend will be a free preview weekend of the Showtime network, which will broadcast the event beginning at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday on Showtime Extreme.
The fighters will take to the scales on Friday at 5 p.m. ET, and Bleacher Report will have the weigh-in results covered as they happen.
