To say Ronda Rousey is the favorite going into UFC 157 really doesn’t do it justice.
Liz Carmouche may be a 7-to-1 underdog against Rousey, but Rousey is an astounding 14-to-1 odds-on favorite to win the main event of tonight’s pay-per-view event.
Yes sir, the line for UFC 157’s headliner reads Carmouche +700, Rousey -1400. So if you believe Carmouche is going to upset the UFC’s first women’s champion tonight, some money is to be made.
But does anyone truly believe that?
Sure, everything Rousey said about Carmouche on the UFC Primetime series may be true. She’s tough, she’s unpredictable at times and she had the courage to step up and take this fight when many didn’t.
Still, Rousey is unlike anything fans have ever seen before. With an Olympic bronze medal in judo, Rousey‘s grappling skills are unrivaled in the division.
The same can be said about her armbars.
Who else has won all six of their professional MMA bouts by armbar in the first round?
So though the odds are a bit lopsided for a UFC main event, there’s justification behind it. Rousey simply is that good, and quite frankly, Carmouche only has a puncher’s chance.
But even that isn’t enough. Tonight, Rousey defends her title and makes yet another statement.
After Rousey shows her improved standup, she clinches, throws Carmouche and puts her in Rousey‘s world. This is a world that no other opponent of Rousey‘s has yet to survive in.
Carmouche won’t either. After taking her to the ground with a throw that’s sure to make the crowd go “ahhhh,” Rousey dominates the top position and locks onto the arm.
We’ve seen this plenty of times before, right? Different opponent, same story. Let’s hope Carmouche doesn’t pull a Miesha Tate and refuses to tap when the pressure is fully applied.
Arm breaks can make the manliest men cringe. Rousey wins by submission in the first round as Carmouche taps to one of Rousey‘s patented armbars.
Little money is to be made on the gambling circuit. The odds heavily favor Rousey. There’s a reason for that.
