UFC 157 went down on Saturday night from the Honda Center in Anaheim, CA and in the evening’s main event, Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche faced off in the promotion’s first women’s bout. Upping the ante was the fact that the bout was for Rousey‘s women’s bantamweight title.

The two wasted no time in getting together in the center of the Octagon as Rousey looked to clinch and Carmouche looked to use her striking to her advantage.  Rousey was able to work the fight to the ground, but she was up against the fence, not allowing her much space to look for her patented armbar.

In somewhat of a surprise, Carmouche was able to take the back of Rousey and she then went to work cranking on a nasty choke/neck crank that looked like it had Rousey in some serious trouble.

The move immediately brought to mind the armbar that Vitor Belfort slapped on Jon Jones in their title bout, undoubtedly leaving many thinking that they were about to see the end of the Rousey hype machine.

That was not to be. The champion shook Carmouche off and when the fight went back to the ground, Rousey was able to deliver a number of punches to the face of Carmouche and set up her armbar.

Carmouche fought hard, but in the end, it was all for naught as Rousey extended the arm and brought the tap, successfully defending her UFC crown and giving her seven wins as a professional, all via armbar.
