It’s all fun and games until someone gets their air supply cut off.

That’s what happened at Bellator 221 last weekend in Rosemont, Ill., when former WWE wrestler Jake Hager finished local warm body T.J. Jones on the DAZN main card, though Hager faced heavy criticism after the fight for what appeared to be a delay in releasing the choke hold.

“Tombstone” believes Hager was trying to hurt him as payback for all his pre-fight trash talk.

“When the ref goes to pull you off, let go,” Jones said. “I understand I talk a lot, and I understand the emotions can get kinda high, but you have to be professional. He tried to hurt me more. This sport’s dangerous. You gotta be smart, you gotta care about your opponent’s health. I care about his health, and you don’t want to see stuff like that.”

Hager, not surprisingly, tells a very different story. And while he admits to getting irritated by Jones, who used their high-profile fight to make a name for himself, the wrestler formally known as “Jack Swagger” insists the delay was not intentional.

Then again, neither was this.

“I would be lying if I said it didn’t get under my skin,” Hager said. “I don’t appreciate that, but in the end I’m a professional. It wasn’t on purpose. I legitimately thought that was him pushing on my arm, and I had specific instruction before in the locker room, from the referee who was a very large man, he told me he would get me off him.”

That’s what Babalu said.

Hager, 37, improves to 2-0 with the win and is already looking to make his return to the cage this summer. The 29 year-old Jones (1-2), meanwhile, is expected to earn another fight for Bellator after doing the job just outside “The Windy City.”

The charges against Conor McGregor over an incident involving him smashing a phone of a man have been dropped.

Back in March, McGregor was arrested in Miami Beach, Florida on charges of strong-arm robbery and criminal mischief. The charges carried bonds of $7,500 and $5,000. This is all after McGregor allegedly took a man’s cell phone and smashed it.

On Monday, Miami prosecutors dropped one charge of felony robbery and one of misdemeanor criminal mischief during a hearing that was held. Prosecutors said in court the charges were dropped after the victim stopped cooperating. The Miami Herald was the first to report the news.

The alleged victim, Ahmed Abdirzak of England, and McGregor were both exiting the Fountainebleu Hotel at around 5:20 a.m. when they met. Abdirzak attempted to take a photo of McGregor with his phone but McGregor allegedly slapped the phone out of Abdirzak’s hand to the floor, then stomped on it several times. He proceeded to walk away with it.

It should be noted that the New York Times reported last month that McGregor was under investigation for an alleged sexual assault in Dublin in December. It should be noted that McGregor has not been charged with a crime in that matter.

Hopefully, with these charges being dropped, it will lead to the return of the former UFC champion.

A big welterweight boxing fight is coming to Las Vegas this summer.

Manny Pacquiao is returning to the ring just two months from now.

A month after it was reported that the 40-year-old boxing icon was targeted for a fight against WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman, it was made official on Saturday that Pacquiao vs. Thurman will take place on July 20th in Las Vegas, Nevada. The venue is to be determined, but we do know it’s going to be on FOX pay-per-view instead of Showtime.

Thurman (29-0-1 NC, 22 KOs) last fought in January, returning from nearly two years away from the sport due to injuries. In what was supposed to be a tune-up fight/title defense, Thurman had a very tough fight with gatekeeper Josesito Lopez, dropping Lopez but still getting hurt on multiple occasions on his way to a majority decision. He was the WBA and WBC champion but vacated the latter due to his inactivity. This will be the first time that he’s fought twice in a year since 2015.

Pacquiao (61-7-2, 39 KOs) has won major world titles in eight weight classes. He presently holds the WBA’s “regular” title, which… yeah, that barely means anything and is not anything to pay attention to. In his first fight under the Premier Boxing Champions banner, he bested Adrien Broner by unanimous decision in a Showtime PPV main event back in January. The bout preceding that was a TKO of Lucas Matthysse in Malaysia last July. Pacquiao left Bob Arum’s Top Rank Boxing after a controversial defeat to Jeff Horn in 2017, and now promotes under his own MP Promotions banner.

This is a quality matchup that Pacquiao can absolutely win, especially if Thurman doesn’t look any better than he did vs. Lopez. When healthy, Thurman has proven himself as an elite welterweight and he does have the best resume of all the 147 lbs titleholders at present. We’ll also find out how much Pacquiao has left in the tank, as he had no problems with Matthysse or Broner, but Thurman is way better than both men and theoretically in the prime of his career.

Rising prospect Aaron Pico has his next fight lined up under the Bellator MMA banner.

The promotion has confirmed that Pico is set to fight undefeated Hungarian featherweight Adam Borics (12-0) on the main card of Bellator 222.
