Chuck Liddell at the 2011 Superbowl

While it has not yet been made official, Chuck Liddell revealed the date and venue for his third fight against Tito Ortiz.

In early July, it was announced that a third fight between UFC Hall-of-Famers Chuck Liddell and Tito Ortiz will be taking place. All that was publicized was that it will be taking place sometime within the year under Golden Boy Promotions’ first venture into mixed martial arts.

But in a recent interview with Larry King, “The Iceman” revealed the exact date and venue of when this fight will be taking place.

“The LA Forum, November 24th. I’m very excited about it, and it’s gonna be a good one,” the 48-year-old Liddell said.

Liddell was forced into retirement in 2010, when he was knocked out cold by Rich Franklin in the first round, marking his third consecutive loss via the said method. According to him, ending his career in such a fashion is the main reason why he was urged to come out of an eight-year retirement.

“I didn’t really actually go out the way I wanted to. I wanted to get back into shape and see if I could fight again,” he said. “I didn’t end my career on my own terms, and this is my chance to do that.

Liddell also says that the fight is being promoted similar to how boxing matches are, where fighters get a share of the revenue. This week, it was also reported that the California State Athletic Commission is on its final step of approving fighter licenses for both Liddell and Ortiz.

Max Holloway cleared to return.

Hawaii stand up! Max Holloway is cleared to fight but nothing official for UFC 231 yet.

It took the doctors some time, but it appears reigning featherweight champion Max Holloway’s health concers are no more.

Holloway, 26, was pulled from his title defense against Brian Ortega at UFC 226 last July (2018). The reason for Holloway’s removal is still not completely understood. ‘Concussion-like symptoms’ would be the verdict.

Just two short months later and “Blessed” is in the clear as he revealed on the latest episode of UFC Tonight.

Injury

“The good thing is all the concussion experts and stuff, they said that I’m clear and free from all of that,” explained Holloway. “We saw some doctors about my health with my potassium levels and stuff was great so we can cut out that whatever weight cut thing that people was saying.”

“The great thing is we don’t really have an answer but at the end of the day, they’re clearing us to fight. The big things that everybody was worried about, it’s not that so I’m excited. It’s time to get back to work, where I belong in that Octagon and can’t wait to get back to what I love.”

Rumors

Rumors have been swirling that Holloway is set to defend the featherweight strap at UFC 231. Ortega himself went on record and stated that he had been offered a contract to fight the Hawian at said event. However, Holloway was quick to point out that he hasn’t signed any contract yet.

“We’ll see what happens,” Holloway said about what’s next for him. “As everybody saw, I found out the same way that everybody found out about some fight in Toronto. I found out from the internet. Some media guy texted me ‘hey congrats on the fight, champ, when do you want to talk about it? Let me know’. I was like what fight, I didn’t text him back, I went on the internet and saw the news going crazy.”

“I guess the UFC is doing the right thing. They know they don’t need to tell me about any fight, they just send me over the contract and your boy’s ready.”

The Ortega fight may not be official yet, but it feels imminent. With the champ back and ready to go its just a matter of time before these two featherweights face off for what many people believe will be the first of several fights.

Mike Winkeljohn Responds To Donald Cerrone’s Verbal Assault

Mike Winkeljohn fired back at Donald Cerrone’s harsh claims.

Following an all-out assault on his gym, now is the moment Mike Winkeljohn responds to Donald Cerrone’s claims.

The longtime UFC vet took JacksonWink MMA to task on a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. ‘Cowboy’ suggested that the famous gym has begun to take ‘bums off the street’ in a ‘puppy mill’-like atmosphere.

Much of the division came supposedly came from Cerrone’s upcoming opponent mike Perry training at JacksonWink. Winkeljohn fired back at Cerrone in a response to MMAjunkie, insisting the discord had been brewing forever. The storied coach insisted that the fan favorite was actually to blame due to his selfishness:

“I put up with it for a long time because Greg has the biggest heart in the world,” Winkeljohn said. “He’s like my little brother. But at the same time, it was causing division.

“And by the way, of the teams that went out there, I think it’s 100 percent of people lost, because ‘Cowboy’ wants to do what he wants to do on his timeframe, and it didn’t work for the fighters that train out there at the gym. So that made our percentage look bad, because we lost a lot of fights because of it.

“If Perry wasn’t at my gym, I’m so much happier now that I got rid of the division in my gym (and) somebody that doesn’t want to help others and wants to do his own thing. It has absolutely nothing to do with Perry, and everything to do with Perry.”

Cerrone blasted JacksonWink’s new pupils and coaches, especially wrestling specialist Chad Smith. Winkeljohn stood by the gym’s fighters and coaches, blasting ‘Cowboy’ for how selfish he became:

“What would ‘Cowboy’ do if it was his gym? Well let me think. If I wanted to go into his gym use it when I wanted to, not be respectful, not help others, pull people and coaches away from the gym, and do things for myself, and then tell the new gym not to work with this person they’ve been working with because it’s all about yourself, what would ‘Cowboy’ do? I know what ‘Cowboy’ would do: The same thing I did, and that was basically, ‘Sorry kids, (expletive) that.’”

The gloves are off between ‘Cowboy’ and his onetime home base. It appears the bad blood runs deep, and we most likely haven’t heard the end of this one.
