Following an all-out assault on his gym, now is the moment Mike Winkeljohn responds to Donald Cerrone’s claims.

The longtime UFC vet took JacksonWink MMA to task on a recent episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience” podcast. ‘Cowboy’ suggested that the famous gym has begun to take ‘bums off the street’ in a ‘puppy mill’-like atmosphere.

Much of the division came supposedly came from Cerrone’s upcoming opponent mike Perry training at JacksonWink. Winkeljohn fired back at Cerrone in a response to MMAjunkie, insisting the discord had been brewing forever. The storied coach insisted that the fan favorite was actually to blame due to his selfishness:

“I put up with it for a long time because Greg has the biggest heart in the world,” Winkeljohn said. “He’s like my little brother. But at the same time, it was causing division.

“And by the way, of the teams that went out there, I think it’s 100 percent of people lost, because ‘Cowboy’ wants to do what he wants to do on his timeframe, and it didn’t work for the fighters that train out there at the gym. So that made our percentage look bad, because we lost a lot of fights because of it.

“If Perry wasn’t at my gym, I’m so much happier now that I got rid of the division in my gym (and) somebody that doesn’t want to help others and wants to do his own thing. It has absolutely nothing to do with Perry, and everything to do with Perry.”

Cerrone blasted JacksonWink’s new pupils and coaches, especially wrestling specialist Chad Smith. Winkeljohn stood by the gym’s fighters and coaches, blasting ‘Cowboy’ for how selfish he became:

“What would ‘Cowboy’ do if it was his gym? Well let me think. If I wanted to go into his gym use it when I wanted to, not be respectful, not help others, pull people and coaches away from the gym, and do things for myself, and then tell the new gym not to work with this person they’ve been working with because it’s all about yourself, what would ‘Cowboy’ do? I know what ‘Cowboy’ would do: The same thing I did, and that was basically, ‘Sorry kids, (expletive) that.’”

The gloves are off between ‘Cowboy’ and his onetime home base. It appears the bad blood runs deep, and we most likely haven’t heard the end of this one.

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Donald Cerrone went on Joe Rogan’s podcast today and he had a LOT to say about his old gym, Jackson-Winklejohn.

Naturally, the target of his outburst, Mike Winklejohn, was quick to give his side of the story. Via MMAJunkie.com:

“Loyalty is two sides,” the coach told MMAjunkie. “‘Cowboy’ is not loyal to anybody in the gym. He’s on his own. He does his own thing. He has not, from what I can remember in the last 10 years, ever helped anybody out with their own camp. He’s as narcissistic as they come.”

He confirmed the rift went much deeper than just Mike Perry.

Donald Cerrone also said a Jackson-Wink wrestling coach, Chad Smith, used to peddle PEDs to college wrestlers.

“I’m going to defend Chad Smith because our winning percentage was high when he moved here,” was Mike Winklejohn’s response

In conclusion, Winklejohn said if the scenario were reversed, Cerrone would have made the same call he did.

“What would ‘Cowboy’ do if it was his gym? Well let me think,” he said. “If I wanted to go into his gym use it when I wanted to, not be respectful, not help others, pull people and coaches away from the gym, and do things for myself, and then tell the new gym not to work with this person they’ve been working with because it’s all about yourself, what would ‘Cowboy’ do? I know what ‘Cowboy’ would do: The same thing I did, and that was basically, ‘Sorry kids, (expletive) that.’”

The drought is over!

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is bringing season 28 of The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) back to FOX Sports 1 for the final time, as the promotion will transition to ESPN at the start of 2019 but don’t worry, there are no plans to cancel TUF.

Woo hoo!

For this latest round of the combat sports reality show, eight female featherweights and eight male heavyweights will bang it out for the coveted “six-figure contract” in two divisions that sorely need the additional help.

Coaching this offering will be middleweight rivals Robert Whittaker and Kelvin Gastelum. As with most seasons, they’ll throw down for “The Reaper’s” 185-pound strap at the conclusion of the show, at an upcoming pay-per-view (PPV) event to be named.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

Be sure to tune in TONIGHT (Weds., Aug. 29, 2018) at 10 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1 and follow along with us in the comments section below. Then stick around after the credits roll for our complete TUF 28 results and recap.

Enjoy the show!

Donald Cerrone made some strong statements regarding some issues within the Jackson-Winkeljohn Academy that his next opponent Mike Perry had previously brought up.

Late last week, Mike Perry dropped a bit of a bombshell when he revealed some “tension” between his upcoming opponent Donald Cerrone and the Jackson-Winkeljohn Academy. Specifically, he claimed that the reason why “Cowboy” decided to move back to Denver was because “no one was kissing his ass” at the famed Albuquerque gym anymore.

“I haven’t seen it first hand (the tension brewing),” Perry said. “But I heard that he physically came here and asked them not to train me. For them not to allow me to come into the gym and to show him some respect even though… he hasn’t done anything for this gym in quite some time.”

These claims were apparently true, but according to Cerrone himself, it was within reason.

“I went to talk to Greg and Wink and say, ‘Hey, this guy’s brand new to the gym. He’s only been here one camp, a couple of months,” Cerrone explained on his recent appearance on the JRE MMA Show (transcript by MMA Fighting). “I don’t think that it’s okay for him to come in and call me out. That’s not right. So if he is doing that, I don’t think we should allow him to train here for this fight.”

“Then f—ng Winkeljohn tells me, ‘I thought you called him out’, he’s just a sh-t-ass and lies to your face, so to me he was like, ‘Sure, no problem, we’ll clear it up and we won’t have any issues.’”

Cerrone says he felt betrayed when the coaching staff decided to side with Perry, instead.

“With Greg, his name is on that building. It’s Jackson-Wink. Jackson-f—ng-Wink,” Cerrone explained. “When it came time to pick the decision and they said, ‘We want to go with Perry.’ Why the f—k didn’t you stand — because Greg’s still with me — he’s like, ‘I’ll just come to the ranch and we’ll sort this out.’ And I’m like, ‘What the f—k are you talking about?’ You tell me I can’t come into the Jackson-Wink gym, but you’re going to backdoor and come into my f—ng house and we’re going to train to fight while Perry’s there at the gym.

“You see everything he does and then you’re going to come and you’re going to train me, not to mention you’re holding classes there and — you might not be training him to beat me, but there’s a lot of people there that have trained with me for f—ng years,” he continued.

“So to me that was the point I was saying. Can we just not have him there for this camp?”

Cerrone has been part of Greg Jackson’s team since the early days of his UFC career, and has seen many of his teammates come and go. For him, the stable has not been the same since Mike Winkeljohn entered the picture in 2007.

“When Winkeljohn merged over, all the big pros left, it turned into a puppy mill,” Cerrone said. “Back when Greg had it, and it was its own school, you couldn’t turn up to a pro class. Some guy couldn’t just come here, knock on your door, and the next thing you know he has shin pads on and he’s sparring.

“Literally at the new gym, bums come in off the street — I swear to God — and will come in and put stuff on and fight. That’s a true story. Random bums off the street. That would never happen back in the day.”

“You should have an infrastructure set in place, especially if you’re the greatest at one time,” he added. “If your winning percentages are in the 80s and 90s and now they’re in the 20s. I have no clue what the winning record of our gym is, but it’s nothing like it used to be. It’s f—ng asinine to me.”

Cerrone and Perry will co-headline UFC Fight Night 139 on November 10th in Denver, Colorado.

A much-talked about — and much-criticized — trilogy fight between former Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light heavyweight champions Tito Ortiz and Chuck Liddell has been signed, sealed and soon-to-be delivered.

According to ESPN, the fight will indeed go down on Nov. 24, 2018 inside The Forum Inglewood, California as Oscar de La Hoya recently teased, and later confirmed. The fight will be under the Golden Boy MMA banner, de la Hoya’s brain child. Oscar revealed his plans to get into the mixed martial arts (MMA) business earlier this year, and now it’s getting closer to becoming a reality.

Tito and Chuck initially threw down at UFC 47 way back in 2004, with “The Iceman” knocking Tito out in round two. A couple years later, Chuck did the same thing to his former training partner at UFC 66, though this time the fight made it into the third frame. The two were set to meet for a third time under the UFC banner in 2010, but the fight didn’t come to fruition after all.

Eight years later, Golden Boy MMA will bring the fight to fans and give Ortiz one final chance at redemption. Tito has been the more active fighter of the two, last competing against Chael Sonnen, defeating “American Gangster” at Bellator 170 in early 2017. As for Chuck, he hasn’t stepped foot inside the cage since suffering a knockout loss to Rich Franklin in 2010.

The loss was “The Iceman’s” third straight knockout defeat. At 48 years of age, Liddell will look to finally put an end to his storied rival against “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy” with a third straight win.
