Jose Aldo on turning down Conor McGregor rematch at UFC 196: This is a high-level sport, not a cockfight

Plus, Aldo says he and UFC officials have come to an agreement that he will get an immediate rematch against “Notorious.”

Jose Aldo had an unexpected chance to get his much-desired rematch against Conor McGregor at UFC 196 on March 5, 2016, after Rafael dos Anjos bowed out of the event with an injury.

Unfortunately, “Junior” had to decline the offer because he wasn’t in shape and wouldn’t have enough time to properly train for a fight against the Featherweight champion.

During a recent interview on “The MMA Hour,” Aldo further explained his decision to decline the fight, saying that he needs proper time to train for such a pivotal bout. Because at the end of the day, he’s a professional fighting in a legit sport and not some desperate scrub.

“Any professional needs time to train,” Aldo said via MMA Fighting. “It’s not a cockfight where I go there and put my rooster to fight. It’s a high-level sport, I’m going there to do my job. When I have time to train, it can happen at any time, anywhere.”

McGregor initially knocked out Aldo in a mere 13 seconds at UFC 194 in Dec. 2015 (see it again here). Since that fateful night, Aldo has proclaimed that he would not return to be cage unless it was an immediate rematch against Irishman.

It’s a sentiment the Brazilian bomber still holds onto, one with which Aldo also says UFC officials seem to finally be on board.

“I can’t speak for others, and I don’t care what they say. I know I deserve an immediate rematch,” declared Aldo.  “People who say I don’t, I don’t care about them. The important is what the UFC thinks and what we think. We came to the conclusion that we’re having an immediate rematch.”

If true, that’s going to make Frankie Edgar very upset.

In addition, Aldo said he isn’t keen on a potential rematch against Edgar to see who deserves next crack at the 145-pound strap, preferring to vie for the title at UFC 200.

“I want to fight at UFC 200,” Aldo said. “It’s a historical edition, a great event. I would like to be part of it.”

After both Aldo and Edgar were forced to decline the fight, Nate Diaz stepped up to face McGregor on 11 days notice in a Welterweight bout that will headline this weekend’s (March 5, 2016) pay-per-view (PPV) event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Apparently the philosophy of quitting while you’re ahead doesn’t apply to Dave Oancea.

The professional gambler, who won a staggering $240,000 from a $20,000 bet on Holly Holm to beat Ronda Rousey in November, is at it again, according to MMAjunkie.

The man known as “Vegas Dave” has placed a $77,000 wager on Holm to be upset by Miesha Tate in Las Vegas on Saturday.

“He just texted me earlier today,” Tate said to MMAjunkie Radio. “He said, ‘I’m upping my bet to $77,000.'”

He stands to win $192,500 if successful, which pales in comparison to the $2,457,200 he won from 26 bets (between $500 and $25,000) on the Kansas City Royals’ World Series win in 2015.

DUBLINAfter weeks upon weeks of canvassing, debates and pontificating, the Republic of Ireland had its general election last Friday. Voters made their way to polling stations that were dotted around the Emerald Isle to designate their support to the various politicians that were available for selection. On more than a few occasions, instead of issuing their selections, some voters simply wrote “Conor McGregor” on their ballot sheets. Two days before the voting ensued, Nate Diaz joined “The Notorious” on stage for their UFC 196 press conference in California. Having only … Read the Full Article Here

Holly Holm ‘could carer less’ about taking a backseat to the Conor McGregor Show at UFC 196

Whether she’s fighting first, second, co-main or headlining an event, you won’t hear current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s Bantamweight title holder, Holly Holm, complain about her placement on a fight card.
That’s the reason …

Whether she’s fighting first, second, co-main or headlining an event, you won’t hear current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s Bantamweight title holder, Holly Holm, complain about her placement on a fight card.

That’s the reason she wasn’t concerned with the fact that her championship fight against Miesha Tate — which is set for UFC 196 on March 5, 2016, in Las Vegas, Nevada — wasn’t bumped up to headlining act once Rafael dos Anjos was bounced from his title fight against Conor McGregor.

That’s because even though McGregor will now headline the card against Nate Diaz in a non-title Welterweight bout, Holm is happy her fight remained as co-headliner because she gets to enjoy the rest of her evening sooner.

She explained her position when asked about the subject during her recent stop at “The MMA Hour:”

“I’ve never had preference if I main event, co-main event, first fight of the night or second fight of the night. The sooner you get in there and get it over with, the more you’re going to be able to enjoy your evening. After a fight, I love to be able to sit down and watch the main event. I think that’s just awesome. For me, that’s just selfish reasons. I hate fight night. I hate it, sitting in your locker room and just letting your nerves eat you away, I’m happy to be co-main event. Now I get to sit there and be entertained by the main event. I have no concern about being the main event because I am not there to say, ‘I am the main event.’ What is the main event? That’s just for headlines, media. For me, I am here to fight. I’m there to fight Miesha Tate on March 5 whether it’s at five o’clock, seven o’clock, 10 o’clock. It doesn’t matter to me, I still have to get in there and perform, I could care less, I just want to win.”

It’s probably for the best, right Brendan Schaub?

Of course, it’s safe to say that had it not been McGregor headlining the event, Holm vs. Tate would have more than likely been bumped to spearhead the pay-per-view (PPV) offering as the lone championship bout.

Nevertheless, “Preacher’s Daughter” is more than happy with fighting sooner rather than later, confirming what most fight fans already knew: She won’t get caught up with being a diva now that she’s sitting on top of the women’s MMA ladder.
