Dada 5000 claims he suffered two heart attacks and died during Kimbo Slice fight at Bellator 149

Bellator 149 “Shamrock vs. Gracie 3” took place on Feb. 19, 2016 at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas. The main event that night was the third (and presumably final) meeting of MMA legends Ken Shamrock and Royce Gracie inside a cage.

Second from the top was a heavyweight attraction with popular street brawler turned professional fighter Kevin “Kimbo Slice” Ferguson and his long time South Florida rival Dhafir “Dada 5000” Harris — old friends turned bitter foes.

Harris experienced serious medical problems following his third round TKO loss to Ferguson, and it was quickly reported that he was resuscitated in the ambulance after the fight. Up to a week after the fight he was still convalescing in the hospital.

In his first statement following his near-death experience at Bellator 149, Harris revealed on social media that things were actually worse than was well known.

For those who can’t see the picture here’s a direct quote from his statement on Instagram.

“Yes I did have kidney failure during the fight I also had 2 heart attacks which I did code aka died during the fight.”

It’s hard to imagine how that would be corroborated given I didn’t see anybody jump in the cage with a pair of paddles to shock him between rounds. Nevertheless, he’s compelled to say there were reasons he did not succeed.

“Yes I trained very hard for this fight and I was in fighting shape. But those who knew me they knew that something wasn’t right by the look in my eyes when I stepped into that ring. But stay tuned for the rest of that shocking story.”

Stay tuned, true believers.

Douglas Lima returns, fights Chidi Njokuani at Bellator 156

Bellator MMA presents Bellator 156 “Galvao vs. Dantas 2” on June 17, 2016 at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. The main event that night is bantamweight champion Marcos Galvao facing former champion Eduardo Dantas for the second time.

The last time Galvao and Dantas met their standing was completely different. In 2013 Dantas was the defending champion who knocked Galvao out in the second round to retain his belt. Now he’ll attempt to reclaim his crown.

A second fight has been signed for the card with intriguing implications. Former welterweight champion Douglas Lima hasn’t been seen since losing the the title to Andrey Koreshkov last July, out-wrestled and worn down over five rounds to lose a unanimous decision.

“The Phenom” Lima won’t be getting an easy return match. “Bang Bang” Chidi Njokuani is undefeated in his last six fights going back to 2013, and he made a successful Bellator debut against Ricky Rainey at Bellator 146.

Njokuani may have the standing to challenge Andrey Koreshkov with a win over the former champion, but that’s assuming Koreshkov is still the champion, since he has the little matter of Benson Henderson to attend to first. A win could put Lima right back in the mix as well.

The updated card for Bellator 156 is below.

Bellator 156 “Galvao vs. Dantas 2” Main Card (Spike TV):

Bantamweight World Title: Marcos Galvao (17-6-1) vs. Eduardo Dantas (17-4)
Welterweight Co-Main Event: Chidi Njokuani (14-4) vs. Douglas Lima (26-6)

Unfortunately, Tony Ferguson (20-3 MMA, 10-1 UFC) is out of his UFC on FOX 19 fight with Khabib Nurmagomedov (22-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) due to injury. The UFC is looking for someone to fight Nurmagomedov at the event.

Ferguson recently commented on his decision to pull out of the fight, and it’s scary. According to Ferguson, his doctor told him that he had “fluid” and “blood” in his lungs and that “any more trauma could be terminal,” which is not good news at all.

Fortunately, Ferguson is looking to return to action in a few weeks. He posted this on Instagram:

“I am out of my Fight Due to Blood/Fluid in my Lung. Usually I can Power Through These things. Doc said it wasn’t wise to Fight due to any more trauma could be terminal. Before Luke Rockhold and Chris Weidman can run it back at UFC 199 on June 4, 2016, from The Forum in Los Angeles, Calif., the duo have to fulfill their media obligations to promote their championship rematch.

That’s just what they did earlier today (April 6) as Luke, the current Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) middleweight champion and Chris, the ex-division kingpin, appeared in a side-by-side interview on ESPN’s “SportsCenter.”

And things got uncomfortable and awkward in a hurry, as Rockhold brought up Weidman’s family as a hindrance to his abilities to regain the title.

“You’re not capable of getting it back,” said Luke. “I’ve dedicated my life to this sport and you’ve dedicated your life to a family. You can’t push as hard, you can’t do what I do.”

Of course, “All American” turned the tables on the champ, saying that family is what drives him even more.

“I dedicated myself to my family so that means I can’t be good at a sport? So do you have any outside pleasures that you enjoy? You’re bringing up family. Family actually helps me a lot.”

From there, the two engaged in back-and-forth banter to the point that the host was forced to tell them to watch their language.
