Andy Ruiz vs. Luis Ortiz Play-By-Play Updates:

200+ lbs.: Andy Ruiz vs. Luis Ortiz

Round 1: Ruiz in the blue and yellow for the hometown LA Rams, Ortiz in the white with pink and blue butterflies on them. Yes, butterflies. Slow start from both men, which is to be somewhat expected. Ruiz with a left hand. Big right-left from Ortiz near the end of the round and it stumbles Ruiz back.

10-9 Ortiz

Round 2: Ortiz getting his jab working now. OH QUICK 1-2 FROM RUIZ and that hook smashed Ortiz with a knockdown. They start again and Ortiz goes down again! Ortiz firing back now. He’s not out of it. Right hand from Ruiz. Another, but Ortiz lands a nice left.

10-7 Ruiz

Round 3: Ortiz connects with a couple jabs. Body jab from Ruiz lands clean. Nice hook to the body, too. Clash of heads here, and the ref notates it for the judges. Hard round to score as not much landed clean for either man.

10-9 Ruiz

Round 4: Ortiz not throwing much, but is still landing that jab. Ruiz not throwing much of anything, either. I’m hard pressed to find a clean shot from either man here.

10-9 Ortiz

Round 5: There’s a right to the ribcage from Ruiz. Ortiz answering to the body. Ortiz lands a pair of rights in between getting hit by one from Ruiz.

10-9 Ortiz

Round 6: Ortiz backs Ruiz up into the corner. Ruiz gets in a solid right. One to the gut. Ortiz throws an overhand, but it hits glove. Clipping right just glances for Ruiz. Ortiz hits a left.

10-9 Ruiz

Round 7: Ortiz with a left in an exchange from both men. Ruiz with a pair of rights. Solid right cracks in and sends Ortiz back a couple steps. Ruiz pushes forward and starts flurrying and gets a knockdown with a right! Ortiz looks like he’s on steady enough legs.

10-8 Ruiz

Round 8: Ortiz keeps on jabbing. They exchange in the pocket and both men appear to land a couple. Ortiz with a combo and gets a bit of traffic going his direction. More jabs from the Cuban. Body shot right by Ruiz, eats a cross for his troubles. 1-1-2 by Ortiz and that 2 hits the forehead.

10-9 Ortiz

Round 9: Quick start here as they flurry in the opening seconds and Ruiz lands a solid right. They move forward and Ruiz slips to the canvas, ruled not a knockdown. Oddly enough, I think Ortiz slipped a bit on that same spot of the canvas earlier in the fight. Yelling exchange from both men. Both land, it looked like. Ruiz with a nice duck-under and pivot to get off the ropes. Ortiz connects with his left.

10-9 Ruiz in a very close round.

Round 10: 1-2 by Ortiz. A pistoning, power-jab lands, too. Ruiz with a counter-left. Jabs from Ortiz. Ruiz tries a right hand, but it looks to hit the chest more than the jaw.

10-9 Ortiz

Round 11: Sneaky right hand by Ruiz. Good jab, too. Cracking right hand from Ruiz. Ruiz smells blood in the water and he’s flurrying now. Left connects. Now a right. Ortiz has a cut near his brow and I think he’s bleeding from his lip, too.

10-9 Ruiz

Round 12: Ortiz looks like he knows he needs a knockout to win and he’s trying. They’re both flurrying. Rights from both men land clean. Shovel hook from Ortiz. Two lefts for Ortiz. Ruiz counters. More lefts from Ortiz in this round than in any other three combined. There’s two more.

10-9 Ortiz

UFC Paris exceeded expectations earlier tonight (Sat. Sept. 3, 2022) when all the French talent was victorious, and the general quality of the fights was quite high. In addition, the crowd was going absolutely wild for the first-ever UFC event on French soil, which made the stakes feel even higher.

Though French champion Francis Ngannou was in attendance, UFC Welterweight kingpin Leon Edwards, who resides in Birmingham, England, did not make the show. Instead, “Rocky” was rubbing elbows at the WWE: Clash at the Castle event inside the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. The Clash at the Castle event is the WWE’s first major stadium show in the United Kingdom in almost 20 years!

Edwards is pictured below with WWE superstar Triple H, and he’s also seen in “Gypsy King” Tyson Fury’s video.

“A lot of excitement building for #WWECastle @principalitysta … great to have the champ @Leon_edwardsmma joining us this evening!”

Edwards and his recently captured UFC title also made it on the main broadcast.

When Edwards’ shin crashed into Kamaru Usman’s skull in the main event of UFC 278, his life permanently changed. “Rocky” is now a champion and a star, which opens up unique opportunities like the above. He may have to pass some of them up, however, because lots of contenders have their eyes set on his title.

See what happened at BKFC Thailand 3 on Saturday morning.

Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship (BKFC) returned to Thailand for its first-ever event at CentralWorld Live at 8floor in Bangkok on Saturday.

Muay Thai legend Buakaw Banchamek ventured into bare-knuckle boxing and needed less than two minutes to finish Erkan Varol with brutal body shots in the headliner. Varol was aggressive, pressing forward and finding a home for some right hands. Buakaw was patient, settling in before throwing out some jabs. With his opponent up against the ropes, Buakaw caught Varol with a shot to the body that clearly hurt him. Buakaw saw the reaction and moved in with more shots to the body before Varol fell to the canvas, clutching his side. Great win for Buakaw.

Surasak Sukkhamcha and Pongpisan Chunyong fought for the inaugural BKFC Thailand featherweight championship in the co-headliner. The fight was close enough to warrant an extra round, but Sukkhamcha emerged victorious over Chunyong by majority decision.

Here are the full results and highlights from BKFC Thailand 3:

The controversial Harvard dropout followed up his BJJ discussion on the Joe Rogan Experience by posting some MMA sparring footage.

A billionaire needs to keep busy. In addition to surfing, allegedly poisoning political discourse and smoking meats, Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg has turned to the mats to occupy his mind.

“How did I not know about it till right now?” Zuckerberg said on a recent episode of the Joe Rogan Experience. Sitting with the podcaster for nearly three hours discussing topics from VR to the government, the tech mogul described finding his way into martial arts during the pandemic.

“Since COVID, I got super into surfing and foiling, and then really into MMA. I know a lot of people who do it. There’s actually this really interesting connection between people who surf and do jiu-jitsu,” he said. Collecting references from friends and colleagues, Zuckerberg found his way to BJJ/Judo black belt Dave Camarillo’s gym, Guerilla Jiu Jitsu. A former student under Ralph Gracie, Camarillo has coached grappling in California for the better part of 20 years.

A lifelong athlete, Zuckerberg went on to bemoan his failure to start grappling years ago.

“My mom made me do three varsity sports and my life took a wrong turn when I chose to do fencing competitively instead of wrestling in high school or something,” he said. “There’s something so primal about it, I don’t know.” Typical of grappling converts, Zuckerberg has since pushed many of his friends into the sport as well. “Since then I’ve just introduced a bunch of my friends to it—we train together, and we like, wrestle together, and there’s a certain intensity to it that I like.”

Before taking it up himself, Facebook joined fellow internet giant in offering free grappling classes to employees. Tapping BJJ brand Hyperfly, Facebook threw in some customized gis to sweeten the deal. “There’s a lot of good parallels for philosophy of life and, like foiling and surfing, jiu-jitsu, MMA, I think it sort of teaches you about the flow and momentum of things,” he said.

Since the interview, many have wondered if Zuckerberg would dip his toes into the other half of MMA and mix in some striking. We got our answer when he posted a short video to Instagram earlier today, featuring Zuckerberg and MMA Prospect Khai Wu getting rounds in. Wearing gloves and shin guards, Zuckerberg displayed a basic grasp of submissions off his back, takedown defense and what I’m told are punches and kicks.

Look out Ashton Kutcher, I guess.

Wu makes his UFC Fight Pass debut on Urijah Faber’s A1 Combat tonight at 7 pm PST.
