Kevin Holland and Daniel Rodriguez could possibly be squaring off on September 10th, at UFC 279 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

UFC 279 was one of the weakest cards in recent memory, but this past week a few interesting fights have been added to the card to spice things up. The UFC also added Li Jingliang vs Tony Ferguson to the bout, as Ferguson will be making a move to the welterweight division, after his last 19 bouts have been in the lightweight division.

This bout between Holland and Rodriguez should be a banger, if it is made. Holland announced the bout on an Instagram post. He was promoting a new song he mad called “Neck” and after the montage of him fighting, he dropped the news he’d be fighting ‘D-Rod’ on September 10th. There has been some speculation on if the bout is a sure thing as of now, but it seems to be trending in the direction of being officially added.

Holland has been calling for this fight since he made the move to welterweight, as he had been going up against wrestlers most of the time. Holland’s wrestling has been improving, but a fight where he will mostly be striking has been on his wishlist for a while. The two were supposed to square off back in May of 2020, but it ultimately fell through.

Kevin Holland has won both of his bouts since making his debut in the uFC welterweight division

Holland has a TKO finish over Alex Oliveira and a submission win over Tim Means. Holland received a ‘Performance of the Night’ for both of those finishes. Holland is a dangerous striker, as he has five wins in the UFC via KO/TKO. His counterpart is also a fantastic striker, and will stand and bang with the best of them. Rodriguez most notably beat former title challenger Kevin Lee on short notice, handedly.

The Askar Mozharov saga has continued in the only wacky way one could have expected it to.

MMA Junkie confirmed Tuesday (Aug. 24, 2022) that Mozharov has been suspended by the Nevada Atheltic Commission (NAC) after a positive drug test result for his lone Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) appearance in June 2022. Mozharov tested positive for GW1516 sulfone, a hormone and metabolic modulator. No specific timetable was given on the suspension’s length but it was labeled as “temporary.”

The Light Heavyweight combatant was not flagged by UFC’s doping partner, United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA), because he was below the agency’s testing threshold.

Mozharov generated quite the buzz ahead of his UFC debut for all the wrong reasons. During fight week, it was continuously revealed that Mozharov’s mixed martial arts (MMA) record was far from accurately portrayed ahead of his clash with Alonzo Menifield.

The 27-year-old prospect entered the promotion with a sturdy 25-7 record before it began dwindling after media outlets began doing further research. In just a matter of a few days, Mozharov went from 25-7 to 21-12 before winding up at 17-12. When asked about the unusual findings, Mozharov claimed it was because of organizations — specifically in China — he’d fought for dating back to his career’s start at age 18.

At UFC Vegas 56, Mozharov’s failed UFC stint ended in less than a full round, facing the aforementioned Menifield, who finished the “Ukrainian Conor McGregor” via technical knockout with ground and pound elbows in the crucifix position (watch highlights). Shortly after the appearance, Mozharov was as good as done in the promotion, receiving his release.

Maverick and Young will now fight on November 5th.

It turns out Miranda Maverick won’t be fighting out her contract after all.

The UFC women’s flyweight prospect has had her postponed UFC 278 matchup with Shanna Young re-booked for a Fight Night card on November 5th. Maverick announced the news on Instagram.

Maverick vs. Young was nixed from last weekend’s UFC 278 card after Young was hospitalized with health complications during her weight cut.

Maverick (10-4) is coming off a win over Sabina Mazo in March, which snapped a two-fight losing streak against Maycee Barber (albeit a highly debatable decision) and Erin Blanchfield. At her best she’s won the Invicta FC Phoenix Rising series flyweight tournament, as well as UFC victories over Llana Jojua and Gillian Robertson.

Young (8-4) won by TKO over Gina Mazany in April to also snap a two-fight losing streak. She’s competed at both flyweight and bantamweight, making her UFC debut at 135 lbs and losing by decision to Macy Chiasson. A TKO defeat to Stephanie Egger prompted her moved back to 125, which paid immediate dividends.

No main event has been announced for the November 5th show.
