Ngannou

Widely expected to headline the UFC’s preliminarily planned return to the Toyota Centre in Houston, Texas on August 7. for UFC 265 — the heavyweight championship rematch between Francis Ngannou and Derrick Lewis is now reportedly unlikely to feature at the pay-per-view showcase.

As per a report from Ariel Helwani this afternoon, scheduling conflicts have put the planned heavyweight title re-run between champion, Ngannou and the #2 ranked Lewis in jeopardy of featuring at UFC 265, with an event, likely UFC 266 on September 25. now targeted by the organization to host the championship rematch.

Whilst not officially announced by the promotion, Ngannou vs. Lewis 2 was widely expected to take main event status at UFC 265, with promotional president, Dana White, outlining an August timeframe for the rematch. The pay-per-view event currently features a bantamweight title pairing between two-weight gold holder, Amanda Nunes and Julianna Pena. At the time of publication, it’s currently unknown if that title fight will headline the flagship event.

Ngannou and Lewis initially met for the first time back in July of 2018 at UFC 226, where the current titleholder dropped a forgettable unanimous decision loss to Lewis, in his second consecutive blemish following a January title challenge defeat to Stipe Miocic.

In the time since, Ngannou has racked up an astonishing five straight knockouts from his next fight fights, including stoppages of Curtis Blaydes, former champions, Cain Velasquez, and Junior dos Santos, Suriname kickboxer, Jairzinho Rozenstruik, and in March of this year, headlined UFC 260 in a championship rematch opposite, Miocic — clinching the title with a second round flurry

For one-time title chaser, Lewis, he’s enjoyed a certain purple-patch himself since his most recent loss; a March 2019 knockout defeat to common-foe, dos Santos — which has seen him establish himself as the most prolific knockout artist in heavyweight history in the promotion’s books. And most recently halted the run of Blaydes with a February knockout at UFC Vegas 19 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

In the time since Ngannou and Lewis’ spectacular knockout wins, former two-time light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones has been involved in some rather public negotiation fallouts with the promotion, in a bid to secure a long-awaited heavyweight debut and immediate title challenge opposite Ngannou. According to White, Lewis is the deserved challenger to Ngannou’s throne next amid his recent run of form which includes three knockout victories in his last four Octagon walks.

If the promotion elects to field Ngannou vs. Lewis 2 at UFC 266 which is scheduled to take place on September 25. — that card will then feature a championship tripleheader. A light heavyweight title offing between Jan Blachowicz and Glover Teixeira is scheduled, while a featherweight gold rescheduling between TUF coaches and emerging rivals, Alexander Volkanovski and Brian Ortega is currently targeted for that event also.

The newly-crowned UFC flyweight champion returned home to Tijuana, Mexico after capturing the 125-pound title from Brazilian nemesis Deiveson Figueiredo in the UFC 263 co-main event earlier this month in Glendale, and not only did “The Assassin Baby” get a hero’s welcome, he also got his own mariachi band.

Special shoutout to the dude who scored himself a Moreno tattoo.

“I definitely feel the doors are open right now for him to walk through in a multitude of facets,” manager Jason House told MMA Junkie. “I think, one, he’s going to be the torch bearer of MMA into Mexico. Now that they have a Mexico-born champion, the country is really going to rally behind Brandon. That’s going to be very good on one end. On a second end, I think it’s going to open up a lot of possibilities for him. Being the first Mexican champion, he’s really going to propel himself into stardom.”

Moreno is expected to make his first flyweight title defense later this year.

Casey Kenney wants to become the first man to stop Song Yadong inside the Octagon when they square off at UFC 265.

The former LFA dual-weight champion is intent in making a statement following his razor-thin decision loss against bantamweight legend, Dominick Cruz, last time out.

In an interview with LowKickMMA, Kenney spoke with excitement about the prospect of fighting in front of fans again at UFC 265 which will take place in front of live crowd at a venue yet to be disclosed.

“You guys see how I fight, especially this fight coming up,” Kenney said. “Song Yadong, he comes forward, throws down and that’s the fight with fans. You get a fight like the Nathaniel Wood and I or even Dom you know, with fans in there, the place is going to be electric. (It’s) a similar Casey Kenney you’re going to see out there, but you know, a little fan boost never hurts anyone. It’s going to be a good energy.”

The 30-year-old thinks his style meshes well with Yadong’s and if the Chinese fighter can stand up to his power they are destined for a Fight of the Night bonus cheque.

“I always say my style, if you survive, it’s going to be fight of the night,” Kenney said. “He’s got a similar style, so I think that’s Fight of the Night written all over it right there.”

Ultimately though, Kenney doesn’t think that’s how his UFC 265 fight will play out.

“I’m looking for a finish man, you know, they don’t pay by the hour in there and I’m due a finish,” Kenney said. “I don’t think he’s been finished in the UFC, so I’m looking to put Song away and be the first guy to finish him in the UFC.”

Do you think Casey Kenney will get back in the win column when he squares off against Song Yadong at UFC 265?

Bantamweight veteran Bethe Correia is now reportedly set to face Karol Rosa on October 2.

The last fight of former bantamweight title challenger Bethe Correia might be upon us. Per Combate’s report, the ‘Pitbull’ is now set to take on fellow countrywoman Karol Rosa in October 2.

After announcing that her farewell bout would be against Wu Xianan in January of this year, the Brazilian was forced out of the bout to undergo an emergency appendix surgery, which delayed her plans. Although it is not yet official whether or not this will in fact be the last fight of Bethe’s career, she has not announced any change of plans yet.

In her last outing, Correia (11-5-1) dropped a unanimous decision to Pannie Kianzad, back in July 2020. The loss happened right after Bethe’s sole win in her last five outings, a unanimous decision victory against Sijara Eubanks, in September 2019. Before that, the 38-year-old was finished by both Irene Aldana and Holly Holm, while fighting Marion Reneau to a majority draw.

The up-and-coming Rosa (14-3) will look for her fourth straight win in the Octagon when she meets Correia. In her previous outings, the 26-year-old picked up three decision wins, over Lara Procopio, Vanessa Melo and Joselyne Edwards. In fact, Karol’s last loss happened more than two years ago, when she got tapped out by Melissa Gatto in September 2018.

Now, Correia is expected to face Rosa at UFC Fight Night 196, in a location yet to be determined, on October 2. The card is scheduled to be headlined by a light heavyweight contest between former title challenger Thiago Santos and Johnny Walker.
