Get a detailed breakdown of the betting lines for UFC Vegas 29, which is set to hit UFC APEX in Las Vegas, Nevada, this weekend (Sat., June 19, 2021), including best bets, underdogs, favorites and much more!

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to the comfort of its APEX venue this Saturday (June 19, 2021) with a top-notch Featherweight slugfest at the helm. UFC Vegas 29’s main event sees “Korean Zombie” Chan Sung Jung look to halt the rise of Dan Ige, who enters the cage with wins in seven of his last eight bouts, while Aleksei Oleinik squares off with fellow Heavyweight finisher Serghei Spivac in the co-feature. Earlier that evening, Marlon Vera takes on Davey Grant in a rematch five years in the making and Seung Woo Choi trades leather with Julian Erosa.

There’s still plenty of year ahead of us to make some dough, so let’s keep it rolling …

What Went Wrong at UFC 263?

The original anchor bet was Matt Frevola over Frank Camacho and Steven Peterson over Chase Hooper. When Camacho withdrew (details), I swapped in Deiveson Figueiredo, which combined with Jamahal Hill’s decision to engage Paul Craig on the ground, doomed the evening. Pannie Kianzad and Carlos Felipe limited the damage, but it’s another week for which I must apologize.

UFC Vegas 29 Odds For The Under Card:

Aleksa Camur (-245) vs. Nick Negumereanu (+205)
Virna Jandiroba (-135) vs. Kanako Murata (+115)
Khaos Williams (-155) vs. Matt Semelsberger (+135)
Josh Parisian (-125) vs. Roque Martinez (+105)
Joaquim Silva (-135) vs. Ricky Glenn (+115)
Lara Procopio (-150) vs. Casey O’Neill (+130)

Thoughts: As I mentioned in the “Prelims” pieces, this is some of the closest matchmaking I’ve seen in some time, which makes my life difficult. I’m willing to roll the dice on Kanako Murata, Roque Martinez and Casey O’Neill, though.

Virna Jandiroba is nearly unstoppable when she can dictate the wrestling, but as we saw in her Octagon debut against Carla Esparza, she can be neutralized by opponents with strong takedowns of their own. Murata unquestionably fits the bill — Jandiroba will have to win this fight off of her back, and while that’s not totally outside the realm of possibility, it’s much likelier that Murata grinds her way to victory.

Josh Parisian got tuned up in his UFC debut by a short, stout boxer in Parker Porter. Roque Martinez, is, well, that again. Martinez’s speed and durability should make up for his lack of size, and even if it doesn’t, Parisian seems to only have a round of gas.

It’s worth a look, at least.

For my money, Lara Procopio vs. Casey O’Neill is a 50/50 fight, so the fact that O’Neill is an underdog makes her a bargain. “King” can hypothetically match Procopio in most areas and is the better ground-and-pounder, which should carry her to victory.

You can stick Aleksa Camur in a parlay if you want a little extra heft. He’s more than a little underwhelming, but Nick Negumureanu was flat-out awful in his debut and he hasn’t fought in more than two years.

UFC Vegas 29 Odds For The Main Card:

Chan Sung Jung (-110) vs. Dan Ige (-110)
Serghei Spivac (-225) vs. Aleksei Oleinik (+185)
Marlon Vera (-210) vs. Davey Grant (+175)
Seung Woo Choi (-150) vs. Julian Erosa (+130)
Bruno Silva (-145) vs. Wellington Turman (+125)
Dhiego Lima (-165) vs. Matt Brown (+145)

Thoughts: Even considering Davey Grant’s recent resurgence and his win in their previous encounter, Marlon Vera seems like a quality investment. “Chito’s” takedown defense has advanced past the point where Grant can grind out a win as before, he’s the better technician on the feet, and his insane durability means that Grant can’t rely on the comeback knockout again — Viva Ecuador!

UFC Vegas 29 Best Bets:

  • Parlay — Kanako Murata and Marlon Vera: $100 to make $217
  • Parlay — Roque Martinez and Marlon Vera: $100 to make $203
  • Parlay — Aleksa Camur and Casey O’Neill: $80 to make $179.20

There’ll be no shortage of combat sports action this weekend — here’s hoping you’ll join us for this one. See you Saturday, Maniacs.

Tanner Boser is replacing Maxim Grishin, who is dealing with visa issues.

Ovince Saint Preux has a change of opponent and a change in weight class.

MMA Junkie reported on Wednesday that OSP is set to move up to heavyweight to take on Tanner Boser at UFC Vegas 30 on June 26th. Saint Preux was originally supposed to face Maxim Grishin at light heavyweight, but Grishin withdrew due to visa issues.

Saint Preux (25-15) is coming off a first-round TKO loss to Jamahal Hill in December. The former interim light heavyweight title challenger gave it a go at heavyweight in May of last year, losing a split decision to Ben Rothwell. From there he returned to light heavyweight for a brutal KO of Alonzo Menifield before running into Hill.

Boser (19-8-1) dropped a split decision to Ilir Latifi less than two weeks ago at UFC Vegas 28, this coming after he lost a unanimous decision to Andrei Arlovski last November. Shortly after the Latifi defeat, the Canadian asked Dana White and matchmakers Mick Maynard and Sean Shelby to get him another fight ASAP to fight out the remainder of his contract.

Request granted.

UFC Vegas 30 airs exclusively on ESPN+ and is headlined by a heavyweight bout between top contenders Ciryl Gane and Alexander Volkov.

Rosi Sexton

Rosi Sexton was once completely opposed to the idea of allowing transgender athletes to fight in MMA, but she has taken a different position now after seven years away from the sport.

Sexton is regarded to be one of the pioneers in women’s MMA after a long career in the UFC, CageWarriors, and Bellator. She competed against the best of the best in the sport including Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Jessica Andrade.

The conversation regarding transgender athletes competing in combat sports has picked up over the past few months after former transgender athlete Fallon Fox went after Joe Rogan during the promotion of their upcoming Biopic. Sexton recently wrote an op-ed on SB Nation on the topic and alluded to her own personal experiences with the issue.

“When people ask me why trans rights are something I care about, I tell them the truth,” Sexton said in an article posted to SB Nation’s Outsports. “I want to support my trans friends who are too often on the receiving end of some awful discrimination, abuse, and harassment.”

“Whenever I stand up for trans-inclusive policies, I get a barrage of similar abuse hurled my way, allegations that I support abuse of women, of children, that I’m stupid and don’t understand biology, that I’m on the side of deluded or predatory men. It can become overwhelming.”

Back in 2013, Sexton had said in a blog post that she was disappointed with Fox not publically announcing their gender identity during their combat sports career and that it was unfair for their opponents in MMA.

Sexton and Fox had a recent conversation about the issue of transgenderism that Sexton alluded to as “uncomfortable”. But, it appears that Sexton has changed sides on the issue and is happy to help the transgender community in any way she can.

What are your thoughts on Fallon Fox, Rosi Sexton, and transgenders in MMA?

Zhang Weili

Former UFC strawweight champion Zhang Weili has been clamoring for an immediate rematch with the newly-crowned strawweight queen Rose Namajunas ever since her knockout loss at UFC 261.

While nothing has been officially announced by the UFC yet in terms of making the matchup happen later this year, Weili is preparing as if she were in the middle of a fight camp.

Weili provided an update for her fans on her Instagram regarding her comeback to the UFC octagon after losing her strawweight belt and seems keen on reclaiming the throne.

“Everything will continue,” Weili said. “Begin to prepare for battle. I hope to make a little progress every day.”

Weili alluded on her Instagram last week that a fight with Namajunas is close to coming to fruition as she prepares in her native China. She has showcased her trademark vicious striking combined with impressive grappling skills that she hasn’t utilized as much in recent fights.

Namajunas knocked out Weili with a ferocious head kick in their matchup earlier this year in Jacksonville. With the win, Namajunas became the first two-time strawweight champion in the history of the division. She lost the belt to Jessica Andrade back at UFC 237 before avenging the loss at UFC 251 in a number-one contender bout.

Before that, Weili had defeated Andrade to claim the strawweight title and become the first Chinese UFC champion. She then defended her title in a historically great fight against Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 248 before falling to Namajunas.

A rematch between Namajunas and Weili is sure to be entertaining, and Weili looks like she is preparing for war later this year against the woman who took her place as one of the top female fighters in the world. With another win over Weili, Namajunas has the opportunity to cement herself as an all-time great as she begins her second title reign.

Do you think Rose Namajunas vs. Zhang Weili 2 should happen next?
