The former UFC middleweight champion has shared a recovery update on his broken leg.

Chris Weidman is three weeks removed from having surgery to repair the broken leg he suffered in his fight against Uriah Hall at UFC 261. And he is already getting back to normal.

The ‘All-American’ has been sharing recovery updates on social media for fans and they have gotten more and more positive with each post. The previous week of updates are some of the most promising, however, as Weidman shows he is now able to stand and walk — milestones he was not expected to meet until about eight weeks post-op.

On Friday afternoon, Weidman took to Instagram and revealed the progress he has been making on an anti-gravity treadmill at Performance Rehab Associates located in North Carolina. He is seen taking some small steps, but they are extremely impressive considering the severity of his injury.

“Big day, I am able to get my foot back on the ground and walk on anti-gravity treadmill,” wrote Weidman. “This treadmill offsets my weight and allows me to load my foot and try to walk normally. This is the first step in getting back to loading shin and knee normally. We are trying to restart the conversation between my brain and my foot, increase blood flow, and accelerate healing.”

On Sunday afternoon, Weidman posted another positive update. This time, it was a photo showing the difference between his left and right leg with a caption explaining how the pain is slowly subsiding as he stands in place.

He also detailed how the blood flow has been in his leg, which was a grand concern of his throughout the early stages of his recuperation.

“Pain is getting way more tolerable while standing; thank God!,” wrote Weidman. “The blood flows into my leg is still insane when I have to get up, as you can see the difference in colors. The doctor said because blood vessels and veins are damaged from the trauma, the blood has a hard time traveling back up the body, fighting gravity. Again thank you for all the love and support. Blown away.”

Weidman is still presumed to be away from competition for the remainder of the year, but that does not mean he is done with fighting. The former middleweight champion said he intends to continue on in his career when he has made a full recovery from the injury.

Conor McGregor’s wallet isn’t the only thing to keep getting bigger, as “Notorious” and fiancé Dee Devlin recently welcomed baby number three.

“The McGregor Clan is now a family of five,” the former UFC champion wrote on Instagram. “Healthy baby boy delivered! Baby and Mammy Wonder Woman are doing great! God I thank you for everything you give to me and my family in this world. My newborn son, Rían McGregor.”

McGregor is expected to make his MMA return at the upcoming UFC 264 pay-per-view (PPV) event on July 10 in Las Vegas, where “Notorious” will collide with longtime rival Dustin Poirier. A victory over “The Diamond” could land “Mystic Mac” another crack at the 155-pound crown.

A loss, however, could be a serious blow to his combat sports brand, but considering the kind of loot McGregor has been able to bring in over the last few years, he should be set for life, win or lose.

Ringside Physician Breaks Down Bizarre Shane Burgos Knockout

At UFC 262, Shane Burgos and Edson Barboza were having an amazing battle to open up the main card. In the third round, Barboza would hit Burgos with a clean right hand that he seemed to just brush off. About four seconds later, Burgos’ legs gave out, sending him backwards to the canvas. Barboza would then go and finish him about one minute into the third round. The delayed reaction was baffling and many suggested that Burgos was just to tough for his own good. Some of those people would appear to be right.

Dr. David Abbasi is a ringside physician and orthopedic surgeon who breaks down sports injuries on his YouTube channel. Following Saturday night, Dr. Abbasi posted a video explaining how the brain works during a KO and why Burgos’ is so strange. (H/T MMAFighting.com)

“First of all, anything that involves the brain is going to be complicated…,” Dr. Abbasi said. “The brain is enclosed within the skull and is surrounded by a layer of protective fluid called cerebrospinal fluid which basically acts to cushion and protect the brain when the head is shook so the brain is not swashing around on the inside of the head. Now with a knockout type blow like the one we saw Edson Barboza deliver, what can happen is that any sudden movements of the skull can cause the brain to knock around on the inside of the skull. When that happens you get a dump of increased electrical activity and imbalances of the electrical activity can sometimes cause what we consider a knockout, or basically shut down of the central nervous system and the body.”

“In this specific instance, we see a delayed reaction of that. Being a ringside physician, what we think happens is basically a clash of a person’s will power versus scientific ability to continue a fight. Almost like if you were to imagine someone at the end of a triathlon you see those people try to run or crawl across the finish line but their body physically cannot do it. I think there’s a component of that that we can consider was happening.”

Dr. Abbasi also suggests that Burgos’ head movement after absorbing the strike had something to do with it too.

“After he gets hit by the punch by Edson Barboza, at first he acts normally and actually we see him do his normal type of head movement back and forth which in my opinion probably made things worse because his brain was probably on the verge of electrical activity where it was going to shut down or have a knockout but it was just on that border”

“I think the addition of that head movement certainly did not help things. It could have increased the severity of that blow that Edson Barboza delivered. But I think that scientifically, probably what’s going on it was probably an intersection of extremely tough will power meeting the scientific verge of a knockout with the abnormal electrical activity.”

What was your reaction to Edson Barboza’s weird knockout of Shane Burgos?

Enjoy this wholesome tale from the set of Enter The Dragon.

The world is a sad and terrifying place a lot of the time. But every now and then, there are moments of brightness among the gloom. Yesterday Bruce Lee’s daughter Shannon Lee provided us with one of those bright moments.

From the official @BruceLee Twitter account Lee shared a heart-warming story involving history’s two biggest crossover martial arts stars’ Jackie Chan and, of course, Bruce Lee.

The story comes direct from Chan and takes place on the set of 1973’s Enter The Dragon.

That movie, one of the most influential action films of all time, was shot at a time when Lee’s fame and notoriety were sky high. However, Lee would not get to enjoy the incredible acclaim the film earned. He sadly passed away from a brain aneurysm months before the film got its US release.

Also in the film, for a brief second, is Chan. Watch below as Chan describes his blink-and-you-miss it appearance in the film and a sweet moment it garnered between him and his hero.

“I was behind the camera, waiting, waiting, I just see Bruce Lee—pa-pow, pa-pow, pa-pow—then I just run up and… BOOM!,” said Chan as he described the moment he launched himself into one of the many excellent fight scenes featured in Enter the Dragon.

“Suddenly my eyes turned black because [Lee hit me with] one stick, right on my head. He missed [the stunt]! But I just do nothing and I felt a little dizzy, but it was OK. I look at Bruce Lee and Bruce Lee doesn’t do anything. And he looks at everybody and keeps acting. He turns around, back to the director and says, “Cut!” And he just throws the two sticks down and turns around, “Oh my God!” He runs to me and lifts me up. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” And, actually, I’m not in pain anymore because [I’m a] young guy, very tough. But for something, I don’t know why, I pretend it’s very painful. “Oh, ow, ow,” I just want Bruce Lee to hold me for as long as he can.”

Chan added that then, for the whole day of filming, when he and Lee would exchange glances at each other, Lee would hit him with a smile and a salute. Chan said that later Lee came over and asked his name and asked what style he was training in.

The 19-year-old Chan would go on from his Enter the Dragon appearance to star in a number of Hon Kong produced action hits, including Drunken Master and New Fist of Fury. During the 1980s Chan grew into China’s biggest star, with roles in The Big Brawl and Police Story. In the 90s Chan’s appeal crossed over to audiences outside of China, with the 1995 hit Rumble in the Bronx.

That movie paved the way for Chan to land his biggest US role to date; Rush Hour. Since then Chan has starred in a plethora of action and comedy movies both in the US and his native China.
