2012 is almost done. UFC 155 is the last event on the calendar for the UFC this year.

Because the year is almost out, we should look ahead to next year and check out some can’t-miss fights coming in early 2013.

They will feature fierce competitors, and titles and potential title shots will be on the line.

The return of a heavyweight monster, a featherweight superfight and two lightweights who have been jawing at each other for months are just some of the fights that UFC fans will be treated to.

Let’s take a glimpse at what 2013 will bring to fight fans across the world.

If you’re a fan of MMA, chances are you’ve seen some nasty knockouts before.

Knockouts come in a variety of forms. Punches, kicks and knees are all common. But there is one move that is is much rarer than any of those three.

I’m talking about a slam.

A slam in MMA, when used correctly, can end your opponent’s night in quick and brutal fashion. It takes technique, strength and a little bit of luck. Every one is devastating.

Here is a link to the first article about slams. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1446188-5-mma-slam-knockouts

Ronda Rousey: What Her Title Means to the UFC and WMMA

WMMA has never been as popular as it is right now. The majority of the credit for WMMA‘s popularity boom should obviously go to new UFC signee “Rowdy” Ronda Rousey.

Rousey is the reason that women are in the UFC. That is a fact that can’t be ignored. She has a mixture of charisma and skill that has given her star power. She has looked absolutely unstoppable, and with every win, her stardom reaches new heights.

Rousey will be defending her title against challenger Liz Carmouche in the main event of UFC 157. Of course there are many questions surrounding this fight, Rousey and her title. What if Carmouche wins? Will women in the UFC be done if Rousey were to lose the fight?

There are a lot of questions and not many answers at this time. Rousey and her title are at this time very important to the future of women in the UFC and to WMMA as a whole.

Rousey has become the face of women’s MMA. How far will WMMA go? Seemingly as far as Rousey can take it. She needs to win and do it impressively.

People are already looking for ammunition as to why women should not be in the UFC. Rousey defending her title and garnering more and more attention is all but essential to keep WMMA growing and popular.

Rousey needs to put on a good fight, defend her belt and continue to draw attention and fans. WMMA has a long way to go, but with Rousey leading the charge, it has the best chance at recognition and growth since the days of Gina Carano.

Rousey‘s title is of incredible importance. She needs to prove women belong in the UFC by defending her title, and doing that will bring more attention to WMMA.

These next few months are critical. The fate of women fighting in the UFC, and the popularity of WMMA as a whole, is at stake. It could crash, or Rousey could propel both to new heights. Whatever happens, MMA fans the world over will be waiting and watching.

In the UFC today there are many fighters.

Some are young and looking to make an impact in the sport.

Some are in the middle, veterans of the sport who are searching for title shots, money and respect.

Then there are the old guard UFC fighters. Fighters from a previous generation that are able to hold their own against the best the UFC has to offer them.

They are living legends, with highlights of their exploits from years past.

These fighters should never be underestimated in a fight because despite their age, they may still hold some incredible tricks.

Age is just a number, after all.

Every fan of MMA loves a good finish.

Whether that is a punch, kick or submission, it doesn’t matter.

There is a more rare form of finish though—the slam knockout. These finishes are particularly nasty because of the power being put into the slam.

Slam knockouts are always exciting and unpredictable. They can render your opponent unconscious, and do the same to you if you’re not careful.

You’ll see an example of that later on.

Here are five fighters who have successfully slammed their opponents into submission.

Some fighters are just born with it.

You can learn how to punch harder or work on your technique, but some fighters just have pure, raw power.

Every fan likes to see a knockout that brings them to their feet. You never know when one might happen. It is that unknown element that makes MMA so entertaining.

UFC fighters love to get that booming knockout. It can advance their career—fans and UFC brass look kindly on KO’s—and the fighter might even make some extra money for their effort.

In this slideshow, I will try to stay away from the usual heavy-hitters like Hendricks and dos Santos, and focus on guys that aren’t talked about nearly as often.

Here are some UFC fighters who have put guys to sleep over the course of their careers.
