Cardio is an essential part of being a mixed martial arts fighter.
If you don’t have the cardio, then a three or five round fight might be one of the most grueling experiences of your life.
The ability to go three rounds at your highest pace has proved a winning strategy for many fighters. A perfect example is Clay Guida outworking Anthony Pettis in his UFC debut.
Fighters with larger gas tanks are able to outwork their opponents and ultimately wins their fights.
Let’s check out three fighters with endless gas tanks.

Michael Bisping and Chris Weidman are elite middleweight fighters who have long hungered for a chance to fight the middleweight champion, Anderson Silva.
There has been much speculation leading to who will receive the next title shot in the log jam of the middleweight division. These two fighters have really stood out from the pack and are making legitimate claims that they should be the next person to fight for the middleweight title.
Weidman has been on a tear since his UFC debut with wins over the likes of AlessoSakara, Tom Lawlor and a crazy knockout of Mark Munoz. The Serra/Longo product had rattled off five straight wins and has looked unstoppable so far.
Bisping has been equally impressive but has not gotten nearly the same recognition. He was on a four-fight win streak before losing a controversial decision to ChaelSonnen. I, for one, believe he won that fight, but that is an article for another time.
He then rebounded by winning a big fight against Brian Stann at UFC 152 in Toronto. Both men now have their next opponent’s set. Bisping will challenge VitorBelfort at UFC on FX 7, and Weidman will face off against Tim Boetsch at UFC 155.
Both of these fighters have made a lot of noise in the middleweight division as of late. I believe that Bisping deserves the title shot more based on his experience and wins beforehand. He has won more big fights but has not gotten the same recognition.
Weidman on the other hand hasn’t been around the UFC as long and hasn’t fought and beaten some of the names Bisping has, but he has elite level skill and has impressed the UFC brass and the fans.
In short, I believe that Bisping deserves the title shot, but Weidman will get it.

The buildup for this fight is massive and exciting. Both fighters are hungry to prove that they are indeed the best welterweight in the world.
There are 100 different reasons why you should watch this fight, but I’ll only highlight three big ones.

Georges St-Pierre finally makes his Octagon return on Saturday night. An 11-month wait will finally be over. A lot has changed since GSP last fought at UFC 129 against Jake Shields.
Carlos Condit is now the interim champion and arguably GSP’s most dangerous opponent to date. But what is on the line for GSP in his main-event fight on Saturday? I’ve heard a lot of different things thrown around in the days and weeks leading up to this fight.
Some say a loss to Condit will tarnish St-Pierre’s legacy. I disagree with this statement. GSP will be remembered as one of the most dominant champions in UFC history, as well as a top pound-for-pound fighter whether he beats Condit or not.
I believe the biggest thing at stake for GSP in this fight is his reputation among fans and critics. St-Pierre has been pegged as a boring fighter by some, for his use of the takedown and subsequent top control.
But this time is different. St-Pierre is motivated and eager to finish his opponent.
He has a new fire lit under him, and he is ready to show it off. Fans have criticized him for years about his lack of finishes. GSP is ready to prove them wrong.
My bet would be that GSP takes Condit down and stays constantly busy with ground-and-pound. He will also be looking for a submission of some sort. He will take more chances and when the opportunity presents itself, St-Pierre will sink in a submission and not let go.
GSP’s legacy will always be as one of the greatest fighters in MMA. But he has a unique opportunity in front of him on Saturday. He can shed the boring-fighter label and prove his doubters wrong all in one fell swoop. Here’s hoping he does.

That is not to say that this fight won’t be between two entertaining competitors. Both fighters have a well-rounded arsenal of skills which they have used to win previous fights in devastating fashion.
