Jack Della Maddalena just locked down his shot at the welterweight top 15 earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 11, 2023) at UFC 284 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, when the Aussie easily stopped veteran Randy Brown with a first-round submission (rear-naked choke).

Della Maddalena was as calm as possible in such a big PPV spot on home soil, but he did have to deal with Brown’s length in the early going. “Rude Boy” was able to score some shots from range in addition to front kicks before Della Maddalena fired back. Once he did he caught Brown with a right hand along the cage that sent him face first into the canvas. Della Maddalena followed up to grab Brown’s back and secure the submission finish.

Check out the final moments below courtesy of UFC/ESPN:

Della Maddalena, 26, is now 4-0 since joining the UFC back in Jan. 2022 with all wins coming by way of first-round knockout or submission. The Australian product looks to be the real deal and should have no problem scoring a top 15 matchup at 170 pounds his next time out.

Loma Lookboonmee captured one of the biggest victories of her career earlier tonight (Sat., Feb. 11, 2023) at UFC 284 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, when the women’s strawweight fighter stopped Elise Reed with a beautiful rear-naked choke submission finish early into the second round.

Despite landing some early offense that bloodied up Reed’s nose Lookboonmee gave up Round 1 and was down on the scorecards entering the second. She was able to score a big-time takedown in the center of the Octagon to begin the round and quicky attacked Reed’s back. Reed fought the hands, but Lookboonmee was not going to be denied. Reed eventually tapped for the first time in her career.

Check out the final moments below courtesy of UFC/ESPN:

Lookboonmee, 27, is now 5-2 as a member of the UFC roster and has won her last two Octagon appearances. The former Muay Thai standout has some serious potential in the women’s 115-pound division, but she’ll need to continue to work on her ground game if she wants to push her way into the top 15.

UFC Vegas 69’s headlining act is receiving its second makeover in as many weeks.

During tonight’s broadcast of UFC 284 (results HERE), it was announced that Taila Santos has been removed from her main event clash with fellow women’s strawweight contender Erin Blanchfield and is being replaced by former UFC champion Jessica Andrade. It is unknown at this time why Santos was removed from the card.

It was announced just one week ago that Santos vs. Blanchfield would be moving to the main event slot for UFC Vegas 69 after a bantamweight clash between Cory Sandhagen and Marlon Vera was yanked in favor of UFC San Antonio this March.

Andrade, 31, is coming off a dominant decision win over Lauren Murphy back at UFC 283 just a few weeks ago to extend her current win streak to three. The former UFC women’s strawweight champion has been alternating between 115 and 125 pounds over the past few years, but a win over Blanchfield could put Andrade back in a position to challenge for strawweight gold by the end of 2023.

Blanchfield, 23, has looked tremendous since making her UFC debut back in 2021. The young contender has compiled a perfect 4-0 record including back-to-back submission finishes over veteran fighters Molly McCann and JJ Aldrich (watch HERE). Blanchfield has been groomed as the next big thing at 125 pounds and now she’ll get her chance to prove it, even though she’s getting a former UFC champion on just one week’s notice.

UFC Vegas 69 is scheduled for next weekend Feb. 18 live on ESPN+ from inside UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Crazed Fan Threatens To Blind Makhachev With Laser Light

We are just hours away from UFC 284 later tonight (Sat., Feb. 11, 2023) live on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) from inside RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, and the combat community has just learned that a crazed fan has threatened to spoil the main event between Islam Makhachev and Alexander Volkanovski with a damn laser light.

This isn’t a joke. Someone is literally threatening to shine a green laser pointer in the eyes of Makhachev when the UFC lightweight champion defends his belt against Volkanovski in a battle of pound-for-pound bests. Can you imagine tonight’s headliner being waved off by a crazed Australian fan waving a green laser all over the arena?

On Friday, a fan took to 4chan and claimed that they will attend tonight’s fights will the plan of blinding Makhachev in the main event. But first, the culprit will test the green dot laser light by shining it once during Randy Brown’s main card bout with Jack Della Maddalena. We swear we’re not making this up.

“THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING!” posted the anonymous 4chan user. “THE BLINDING OF THE BRAZZA IS UPON US. /heem/cel from Perth is Trojan horsing a laser pointer in through a diabetes needle. He will be BLINDING Makhachev resulting in a finish or a NO CONTEST. Pay attention for the GREEN DOT tomorrow. You will see it tested ONCE during the Randy Brown fight, then during the main event.”

Perth police have already stated that the RAC Arena will be heavily guarded against any “anti-social behavior,” but who knows if they’re ready to inspect diabetes needles for hidden laser pointers. That may even be above their own paygrade, which leaves us to wait and see if this green dot does in fact show up tonight at UFC 284. If this anonymous crusader is telling the truth then we need to be on high alert for the test signal during Brown vs. Della Maddalena.

Islam Makhachev will be defending his UFC lightweight title for the first time later tonight (Sat., Feb. 11, 2023) at UFC 284 live on ESPN+ PPV from inside RAC Arena in Perth, Australia, when he meets reigning UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski in a massive main event superfight. In co-main event action, exciting strikers Yair Rodriguez and Josh Emmett will collide for the interim UFC featherweight title.

It’s a big night to say the least, especially considering UFC hasn’t staged an event in Perth since Israel Adesanya’s Octagon debut at UFC 221 back in 2018. The UFC 284 PPV main card isn’t stacked as some of the other cards in 2023 will be, but the main and co-main event attractions will be more than worth the hefty PPV price tag.
