For some reason or another, UFC’s George St-Pierre has been considered overrated by many critics over the course of his career.

St-Pierre’s fighting style has been recognized as boring resulting in his classification of “overrated.”

But, is there any truth or facts to St-Pierre being overrated, or is his fighting style merely a product of his success?

GSP has recently endured a series of injuries which have sidelined the current welterweight champion until at least the midpoint of 2012.

However, St-Pierre remains one of the greatest fighters of all time and is far from overrated.

So, the following slides display 10 reasons why Georges St-Pierre isn’t overrated.

Muhammed Lawal: Why King Mo Could Be a Force in the UFC

The name Muhammed Lawal may not be recognized by many mixed martial arts fans today.

However, throw in the nickname “King Mo” and fans become well aware of who we are referring to.

Lawal, who stands 6’0” and weighs 205 pounds has come to be one of the most popular fighters in MMA today.

After beginning his career with an impressive 5-0 record, Lawal signed on with the organization of Strikeforce as his career appeared to be hitting the premier stage.

However, it wasn’t necessarily Lawal’s record that landed him a gig, but his powerful strikes that allowed him to finish four opponents in his first five bouts.

Lawal didn’t miss a beat after signing on with Strikeforce, posting a perfect 2-0 record on route to becoming the light heavyweight champion.

Despite losing his very next bout to Rafael Cavalcante, “King Mo” would bounce back with an enormous first-round knockout over Roger Gracie at the Strikeforce World Grand Prix.

While Lawal is currently set to take on Lorenz Larkin at the upcoming Strikeforce event on January 7th, it’s hard not to look at his possible future in the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Not only does Lawal have a potential future in the UFC but a successful one at that.

Lawal’s knockout power has quickly separated him from the middle of the pack in the 205-pound weight division.

In fact, in nine total fights, Lawal has finished off his opponent via knockout six different times.

However, while Lawal is often recognized as a serious threat in the stand-up, many often fail to realize just how well-rounded “King Mo” truly is.

Lawal is a freestyle wrestler who took home gold at the Pan American Championships in 2007.

While Lawal’s plan of attack has revolved around his striking, he is more than capable of grappling with nearly any light heavyweight in the world.

With the future of Strikeforce in jeopardy, it’s likely we could see a merger allowing “King Mo” to make his UFC debut in the near future.

Lawal’s skill set demonstrates all the right ingredients for a successful career in the UFC.

UFC 141 Results: Why Nate Diaz Could Be Champ in 2012

Arrogant, cocky, annoying, funny or downright mean.

Those are the words often used in reference to the attitude of Nick Diaz.

But most recently, it’s his brother Nate who has stolen the show.

And while Nate is two years younger than his brother, he’s beginning to live up to the same characteristics.

However, Nate Diaz doesn’t care, as he’s quickly evolved into a legitimate lightweight contender overnight after his recent victory over Donald Cerrone at UFC 141 on Friday.

Many believe Diaz’s choice to leave the welterweight division ultimately saved his career as he had lost two consecutive fights and appeared to be on the down slope of his career.

But the weight drop proved to be a relighting of his fire as he’s now won two straight bouts that have earned him Fight and Submission of the Night honors.

Diaz’s dominating performance over Cerrone had many fans comparing his style to that of his older brother’s in his recent victory over B.J. Penn at UFC 137.

Diaz picked apart Cerrone at will by landing combination after combination.

It wasn’t necessarily the power of Diaz’s punches but the accuracy as he rarely missed a strike all evening long.

While Diaz has certainly evolved into a spectacular boxer, his ground and submission game was shown in his win as well.

Without evening having to take the fight the ground, fans and those in attendance saw Cerrone decline the opportunity of battling it out on the ground as Diaz is a product of Cesar Gracie.

While Diaz may have to square off once more before he can find himself in the No. 1 contender spot, he’ll have no problem weeding out his next opponent if he displays similar skills of that used in his performance over Cerrone.

A combination of Diaz’s boxing, submission and exceptional conditioning could lead him to UFC gold as soon as the midpoint of 2012.

UFC 141 Results: Is Alistair Overeem Receiving Too Much Credit?

After years and years of discussions, rumors and talks, Alistair Overeem finally made the transition to the Ultimate Fighting Championship after signing earlier this year.

Overeem brought with him some of the most prestigious boxing skills the UFC has ever seen along with an enormous 6’5”, 263-pound frame.

However, that wasn’t all the Dutch “Demolition Man” brought with him as he carried arguably the most hype of any heavyweight in UFC history alongside of his opponent, Brock Lesnar.

Overeem lived up to that hype as he plowed through Lesnar just two minutes and 20-plus seconds into the very first round.

It was Overeem’s vicious and gruesome knees that not only finished off Lesnar, but forced him into retirement.

Following the bout, Overeem’s hype skyrocketed through the MGM Grand Garden Arena’s roof as he was quickly considered to be the “the next best thing” or “the future UFC heavyweight champion.”

While Overeem certainly deserves a substantial amount of credit for his performance in his UFC debut, he still has a long way to go in order to prove he’s worthy of wearing UFC gold.

To Overeem’s discredit, he defeated an opponent in Lesnar who hadn’t stepped foot inside the Octagon for over a year.

In addition, Lesnar battled out a disease known as diverticulitis which is also believed to have played a role in the deciding outcome of their bout.

It’s likely the Overeem hype is coming too fast and too soon as he’ll need to prove he can defeat the likes of Junior dos Santos who shares similar boxing skills.

Overeem will also need to prove he can compete against the Cain Velasquezes of the heavyweight division who have the tendency to overpower their opponents in both the stand-up and the ground.

While Overeem certainly deserves a great deal of credit, he may be receiving too much which leads fans to one major question:

Can Alistair Overeem live up to all the hype?

UFC 141: Why Alexander Gustafsson Is the Future of 205

It took all but two minutes and 13 seconds for Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson to once again prove he is no man to mess with in the UFC’s light heavyweight division.

In stylish fashion, Gustafsson finished off the 40-year-old Vladimir Matyushenko by a series of strikes as the fight stopped allowing the 24-year-old superstar to capture his fourth consecutive win inside the Octagon.

Leading up to his main card bout with Matyushenko, many discussed how relevant of a contender Gustafsson truly was in the 205-pound weight division.

All doubts are now aside as Gustafsson is beginning to look a lot like the 2010 version of Jon “Bones” Jones.

To his advantage, Gustafsson stands 6’5” and demonstrates no trouble at all making the light heavyweight requirements as he weighed in at a lighter 203 pounds.

Minus a defeat to Phil Davis at UFC 112, Gustafsson has been nearly untouchable and is quickly being recognized as one of the more exciting fighters in the UFC today.

In fact, Gustafsson has gone to the judge’s scorecards just once in his career, finishing nine opponents by knockout and three more by submission.

The product of Sweden has also established himself as top 10 artist in the heavyweight division and is quickly climbing up the ranks.

It will be interesting to see who Gustafsson squares off with next as he’s a dangerous matchup to any fellow light heavyweight due to his lengthiness, quickness and well-rounded skill set.

It’s very likely Gustafsson could find himself squaring off with a top five opponent in Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in his up-and-coming bout as he’s lacking competition in his most recent bouts.

If Gustafsson continues to evolve as the force he’s becoming, he’s destined to be the future of the UFC light heavyweight division.
