Clay Guida has to be feeling the pressure going into his fight with Hatsu Hioki at UFC on Fox 6 in Chicago. He’s lost his last two in a row, and anyone who follows the UFC closely knows that it’s typically three strikes and you’re out.
Now Guida might have some extra leeway. After all, in his 16 UFC bouts he’s won Fight of the Night a whopping five times. He’s also dropping down to featherweight for the first time and UFC brass may allow him time to get his feet wet at 145 pounds before letting him go.
But the writing is on the wall. The popular Guida is fighting on the preliminaries instead of the main card after main eventing a dull fight with Gray Maynard last year.
No one remains static in the UFC, at least not for long. The only place besides up is down, and a loss to Hioki could send him not just further down the card, but all the way out of the UFC. This is feeling like a must-win fight for Guida.
