Ronda Rousey‘s performance at UFC 157 solidified her status as one of the very best young fighters in the sport of mixed martial arts.
Not one of the best female fighters. One of the best—period.
With unlimited potential, it’s easy to start projecting her career into the future. How long will she be undefeated? Can she match Anderson Silva win for win? Will anyone ever escape the first round?
I’m as intrigued as anyone to find out the answers to these oh-so-pertinent questions. But I’m afraid these questions will remain fodder for mere speculation. We won’t know how big a star Ronda Rousey might become, because her future may not lie in the cage.
“We’ve gone to some pitch meetings for major motion pictures,” Rousey‘s manager Darin Harvey told Bleacher Report. “There are a lot of big Hollywood producers and directors that are very interested in Ronda. They’re paying very close attention to her. They see the star potential. When Steven Seagal came on the scene, one of the things that made him successful, besides having this cool persona, was how well his style of Aikido worked on camera. It looked different than anything we had seen in the movies before. Ronda’s judo—the throws can be spectacular. It can translate on to film very, very well.”
Sooner rather than later, Ronda will continue to fight a couple of times a year. But those fights will be seen at the cineplex instead of inside the Octagon.
