Career records and winning streaks will be meaningless when these two talents begin the bout.

UFC 149 is headlined by what will be a memorable showdown between Urijah Faber and Renan Barao. However, there is no question that Faber has the outright advantage in this fight.

Each fighter’s career record and recent performances would lead fans to believe that Barao is the clear-cut favorite in this match of epic proportions. Yet in reality, it is misleading and fails to give credit to the more talented fighter in the match.

“The California Kid” has posted a career record of 26-5 and has won four of his last seven matches. Meanwhile, Barao is a whopping 28-1 and has won 28 matches in a row. On paper, it would seem as if there is no contest between the two.

Though Barao appears to be the more top-notch talent, it is clear Faber is set to take the title at UFC 149.

For one, Faber has 171 minutes inside the octagon, which is more than triple the 50 minutes that Barao boasts. The plethora of extra minutes is an indicator of more experience and an ability to endure longer bouts. This will pay dividends in this match, and is a major reason why Faber has the edge in the fight.

Faber has also fought in more significant fights against steeper competition. It is the 20th time Faber has fought for a title belt, while Barao is heading into the first of his career.

It is clear who is the more battle-tested, proven fighter.

There is no question that Faber is the fighter to take down in this contest. It will be Faber’s experience that will give him the edge. Make no mistake about it.

UFC 143 Predictions: Nick Diaz Will Take Care of Business Against Carlos Condit

UFC 143 is now upon us, as Nick Diaz and Carlos “Natural Born Killer” Condit will face off in what will be a bout to remember.

Diaz (27-7-1), comes into this fight streaking, putting up his best quality as of late. Diaz has won his last 11 fights and 14 of his last 16 bouts. The last bout Diaz lost was in November of 2007 against K.J. Noons.

Talk about impressive.

Meanwhile, the “Natural Born Killer” has won five of his last six fights, with his most recent loss coming in April of 2009. The last fight Condit dropped came to Martin Kampmann.

The two are fighters that are accustomed to bringing the heat in different ways.

Diaz is a tremendous hitter that is aggressive with his blows. He is not a fighter that is interested in winning via takedown or submission, as his ability to get at an opponent with his hands and feet are what make him a special fighter.

Condit is also a well-rounded fighter, boasting an ability to strike well and take opponents out via takedown. Once he’s got an opponent on the ground, more times than not this is the fighter with the advantage in the bout.

Yet what makes Condit a feared fighter is his ability to beat opponents through submission. It is his evident strength. As of late, however, he has won in KO/TKO fashion, which may bode well for Diaz.

If Condit is to continue this approach and try to defeat Diaz by getting solid strikes on him, it will be Diaz that takes the match. Diaz can and will counter with his ability to deliver solid blows.

The style which Condit has brought to the table more recently will hurt him in the end and give the streaking Diaz another win to add to his 11-fight win streak.

The UFC on FX is set to be an event of epic proportions in Nashville, TN, as Jim Miller and Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard is the match most fans of the sport have to be looking forward to on the main card.

Guillard comes into the match at an impressive 46-10-3 with an impressive five wins in his last six matches.

The talent out of Louisiana is known for his ability to strike with precision and tends to consistently be an entertaining fighter.

Miller, out of Sparta, New Jersey, is a master when it comes to technique. His ability to take down opponents with submission is a major strength heading into this fight. Miller is 20-3 for his career and has won seven of his last eight bouts.

It will be Miller, in spite of Guillard’s 46 wins, who comes out on top in this fight against Guillard.

Miller’s strength will play in his favor, as Guillard conveniently has a weakness against fighters who win via submission.

Each of Guillard’s last five losses have come as a result of submission, including his most recent fight in a loss to Joe Lauzon.

Miller, on the other hand, is a fighter who is able to fight through three rounds even when dealt a loss. The majority of his losses have come via decision, not TKO/KO or submission.

For his career, of Miller’s 20 wins, 11 have come via submission.

This will be the deciding factor in such an evenly matched fight in UFC on FX. Expect Miller to take full advantage of his strength and Guillard’s weakness in this one, as Miller should win through submission in the second or third round of the bout.

In a fight that went over just one round, Seth Baczynski took down Matt Brown in a fight that Brown didn’t stand a chance at victory.

Baczynski was able to land punches up high throughout the first round and early into the second round. It was also clear from the get-go that it would be Brown up against the cage for most of the fight.

Baczynski showed to be a stronger, more confident fighter.

With the exception of several shots with the right and left knees to the body of Baczynski, Brown looked like he didn’t stand a fighting chance in the bout.

In the first round, Baczynski had a big-time takedown, one that set the tone for the rest of the fight shortly after.

To start out the second-round, another takedown for Baczynski would have Brown in a choke hold, one that Brown looked to have slipped out of, but simply had to tap out.

From the get-go, there was no question who the more impressive, more prepared fighter was in the match. Yet, had the fight continued on, Brown could have made the most of his body blows and possibly taken Baczynski out later in the fight.

Ultimately, Baczynski had the advantage in the bout with his solid attack. He consistently landed punches and had the ability to corner Brown and keep Brown on the defensive.

As a result, in the second round, Baczynski’s strength took a toll on Brown, as he was unable to escape the hold late in the match.

Regardless of the fortunate choke hold Baczynski was able to come up with, Baczynski would have eventually taken down Brown, as Brown showed he was not ready for this fight.

Aside from some knees to his opponent’s body, Brown seemed to be a fighter just trying to stay alive throughout the bout.
